2.5 fuel consumption - nice surprise
Have just done 1000km from the south to the north of Spain, almost all of it by motorway, and on a good bit less than one tankful of fuel. The trip computer (which is accurate) showing 43.7mpg, and an average speed of 66mph. Can't grumble at that! Within shouting distance of Peter's 2.1 50mpg achievements...
Setting off for Scotland tomorrow, but we're not expecting the very busy UK motorways to allow that sort of cruising. Full tank of best Repsol diesel on board, at €1.07 a litre, so that will help.

Hope you have a safe journey to Scotland, I've driven the A7/E15 quite a few times, it's quite nice watching the seasons change as you progress further south. Give a little wave as you pass J26 on the M6, that's the closest point to me

I think they should give a decent consumption driven sympathetically. Well done.
Got one of John's 2.5s here that my son has been driving, not much more then 30 mpg but the pump is leaking like a sieve, it seems that there is a very high pressure in the pump that is defeating all the seals, any suggestions?

Re: 2.5 fuel consumption - nice surprise
Yes, potting about in the 2.5 produces 32mpg. Bit of mixed work (mountains tracks plus motorways) gives 37-38, so 43+ more than acceptable. So many speed cameras in Spain now, really not worth exceeding the 120km/h motorway limit. Did see off one or two BMWs at 160+, where necessary. Only to clear the tubes, you understand.
Roughly halfway across Spain, she clocked up 100,000mi - so can now be thought of as properly old, I guess, rather like ourselves.

See you soon in sunny Wiltshire.

Re: 2.5 fuel consumption - nice surprise
Stick to 55-60 and watch that MPG rise quite nicely.
My daily commute of 66-70miles is giving me 52mpg most of the time and only drops below 50 if there is prolonged traffic. Lots of town driving has it drop down to 45mpg but never much more than that. Mines on 220,000 miles now and not far off going over to 221k so putting the miles on it does help a lot. Its got no AC though and is the estate. Hasnt been washed for a while inside or out either lol

Re: 2.5 fuel consumption - nice surprise
Not sure I could hack 55-60 over the 1200mi we've done over the last three driving days. Travelled from Hampshire to just south-west of Glasgow today, and r.h. display still showing 44mpg and 60mph average.
Not good to find the M25 at a standstill at 10:30 in the morning; what on earth happens on Friday afternoon?? Must say I do prefer the near-empty inland motorways of Spain.
The very best of cars for this sort of transcontinental travel, of course. Just nice to do it again!
Isle of Arran and Kintyre tomorrow and for the next few days.

Hi Chris,
What dates are you coming down from Scotland? We will be back at home around the 17/18th September if it's convenient for you to call in at ours I have a manual which may be of interest to you, it's the electric one plus a training course explaining the suspension.

Re: Electric armrest
Just had a look. 7.1 lkkm on the computer, that's 39 mpg, if I calculate it right. Mostly city, with some motorway thrown in from time to time. Seems decent to me for a car this size and I never really paid that much attention to it.

That seems about right for a 2.5td being driven with a mind to economy.
