It is interesting indeed, I wonder which genius finally decided that there simply is a lot of money to be made in retro parts.
Typically a situation of highly educated but no common sense.
(citroen dealer in Mayo offered an XM 2.0 16v exhaust rear box only, for 508 euro's ex VAT..... I told the nice man I can buy a welding machine or fly to Poland and back to get me a replica made for that money and and he agreed

At least we agreed and had a laugh. Nice man to be honest...and he likes our XM's)

Certainly Mercedes do well out of supporting old models.

Seams like a nice idea but I can see some issues, firstly the average 80s/90's Citroen owner tends to be a little, let's just say conservative with their spending. We will end up alienating ourselves from and possibly killing stone dead any attempt to provide backup for our cars.
The guys at my local dealership do like an older car but don't really know much about them.
I think the idea is that PSA will refer to the older key vehicles more in advertising and promotional events and the like, I don't think they are about to get all lovey duvy over some 90's autoshite and start producing spares for all models at unbelievably low prices unfortunately

This German (!) company started in a shed of sorts and now 25 years later has an annual turn over of 5 million euro's.
They would not be in existence if the old French car market didn't demand new parts, would they? And, they are not the only ones. So I yes I am convinced PSA lost out some euro's over the past decades and that destroying old stock by the container loads was utterly stupid.

Looking after the really old classic market keeps the name alive and promotes newer classics as well. People then feel greater attraction and values rise as a result.

I know a guy who is a Riley nut - has been a member for over 40 years. When I moan about the pathetic lack of parts for Citroens he revels in reminding me that he can ring a bloke up in Blackburn whose job within the Riley members club is to source parts from manufacturers large and small. He says one phone call to him will get him 90% of the parts he wants and the other 10% will be on order. This parts man is paid a wage by the Riley club and the set up is run non-profit.

You do need rather a lot of active members to support this type of spares operation, and we don't have that.
Would think that XM owners couldn't do it on their own.
Other models would have to be included to make it viable.

Correct. But that isn't how the CCC works. A more disparate group I have not met.
