Thanks all It is the section just past the "Y" 2 into 1 just before the transverse box... Where it's gone in the past..

I was thinking prices that look like telephone numbers to have a custom exhaust made up but I'm really happy to find that does not seem the case

I guess I'd better get one quick before all the stainless exhaust mobs go out of business because of type approval.

I'm tempted to keep the old system as most of it still looks fairly serviceable.

Try Mr Tyre in Leicester, or any more local branch. They bent and welded on a stainless link pipe on my Merc for £100. P D Gough initially wanted £200, which rose to £400 for the same thing...

I can also confirm that food tins work very well in such conditions. Cut the top and bottom off, slice the side with cutters, then use gun-gum and large jubilee clips.

£300, that is very cheap indeed, there's such a company in Dublin but the seem more expensive. Good tip, I'll store that company for now.

Thanks Will and Will, I think the old tin, gun gum and jubilee clips method will be used as a stop-gap before a proper fix/new system is procured.

Jim it will likely outlast the rest of the exhaust system!

My dad recalls a friend with an old rover in the 70's who has 3 tins and the bits required in the boot all the time and recants stories of them being used at many times. He said the last memory they had of the car was calling it the baked bean tin as most of the straight sections looked to be covered in them lol

Yep, I did the same once on the BX. Nothing to laugh about, this is proper and professional repair. Metal is metal is metal, after all....

An excellent run down to Somerset and back in the Activa today Really enjoyed the car and came home the more twisty and scenic route rather than the rather straight and tedious A303 and A34.

The Activa really does drive like a little roller skate. Its agility belies the size of the car and despite the roller skate handling and fun it really is amazingly comfy - a fur-lined roller skate.

The only downside is its prodigious thirst for petrol when full fun mode is engaged. It drinks the stuff

Nearly got wiped out by a kamikazi taxi driver near my house this evening as he dodged around parked cars at breakneck speed. I was a passenger in a Vauxhall and I'm still shaking now. How we didn't head-on I don't know.

The general standard of taxi driving around here is like Activa fuel consumption - atrocious

I think a supercharged v6 or well tuned 16v HDi 2.0 would be great engines for the car and still disgusted to this day the uk only got one engine and that arcs hasn't been put on any chevron bearer since

Nice one Jim, have you seen the YouTube video of an Activa going full pelt rounded a track? It's filmed going round a long corner at full speed, screeching tyres and under steering a bit, but perfectly flat and stable. It sounds messy but it is quite hilariously impressive!

See if I can find it.
