Here's another thought/question in the never ending quest for improvement of a twenty year old XM: are the tailgate gas struts still available at a reasonable price?
Just found this link through the BX Forum:
http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-stru ... citroen/xm The price seems reasonable, has anyone any experience of this company? When my personal economy refloats after Christmas, he says with optimism

I shall follow this up.

Thanks for that; I wonder if they have got their acts together a bit better with the passage of time... Given that feedback, I wouldn't be sending mine for a regas with any expectation of getting them back in a reasonable period.

Pity they don't refurb the glovebox dampers. Might look into getting some new struts, could do with some new ones for the boot.

Finally got the wiper motor problem fixed today, and had a drive in the drizzle just to enjoy the lack of graunching!
Now have the replacement height selector to tackle. Many thanks to the members who have helped me out with the parts.

What with the weather and such, I haven't done much tinkering on the XM of late; instead, I went through all the invoices I have in the extensive service history> Having sorted them into some sort of order, I filed them and created an Excel sheet to show what had been done, when by whom and at what cost. Having arrived at a current expenditure total of £9686-10, I realised that didn't include the early routine servicing logged in the service book which is still in the car. The two previous owners have clearly lavished a lot of care and attention (not to mention cash) on the car.
I also came across the original purchase invoice from Freeborn Garages Ltd of Southampton that shows it cost (including tow bar, alarm and number plates) exactly £21000.00.

Just ordered a pair of new bonnet struts for the XM with the sick rads.
Will give details when/if they turn up.

Cheaper than a Xantia Activa or V6 then and that surprises me greatly. The two Xantias were costing about £25,000 apiece in 1997...
