Worked on the car again this evening...a bit too late actually...Oops.
The coil and ignition amplifier are good and so is the ECU. The keypad, I believe, is now fixed.
And...I found the coolant header tank is split and the engine runs at around 100c and has a bit of a misfire.

was it the ECU box wiring causing the issue?

That is fantastic news that the car now runs Will and the split coolant tank is an easy fix, while the 24v does tend to run quite hot! We eagerly await further updates, including on the behaviour of the hydraulics! Regards, Matthew T.

Id get the thermo stat changed for a lower rated one.. i feel better running at 80 rather then 100.. its in a great place too.. under the left side too engine mount bar that holds the aux belt tensioner too... well done getting some life i really hope the misfire is a plug or lead only and nothing internal!!

Thats oil temp sensor steve.. fitted only to 24v engines in s1

Little bit of first start smoke, that will clear.
Sounds smooth though, pleased to see the engine is fine I take it!
