Thanks Jan, that's just great Another staggering example of excellent XM design then. That bit must have been done on a Friday afternoon following a particularly good lunch!!!

I could see a hint of a hinge but that screw must be well hidden! It was still working well last evening still so hopefully it'll be OK - perhaps until it's really needed...

Hi Jim, good to have you back. I can confirm the single screw, find that one and you'll be able to get access.

I tried levering the fuseboard back the other day, it wasn't having any of it, but I can see how it hinges down on the bracket mounted on the vent fan and metal frame.
At the far end from you, the fuseboard is mounted on a sliding metal bracket...which won't slide due to age.

Right, come the weekend I shall go and have another look although touch-wood the wiper is now behaving faultlessly..

The XM is now in daily service as the Activa is off the road until fixed and re-MOT'd and the V6 Xantia is presently trapped behind a Vauxhal that can't move due to it's owner being sick...

Not that I'm complaining. I love the XM...

In other news... Just heard today I've been placed on a 12-week course of graded exercise therapy (GET) starting in October. Those that know these things claim my (poor) level of fitness and weight are now contributory factors and over the next 12 weeks I must get fit and loose weight by swimming, gym work under supervision and lots of walking along with a carefully controlled diet... Apparently I look like a snake who's just consumed a big meal at the moment...

When being initially assessed for suitability to undertake the course of GET I was asked to name my most important reason for wanting to get fixed. I somewhat jokingly and a bit tongue in cheek said to help be be able to do much more on cars than I can do now.

To my surprise this made it to the official report on me and when I questioned it they all agreed it was a most laudable reason as what we do for leisure and recreation is a very important factor in our well-being.

I'm looking forward to it. I am told I'll still have to take care but should be able to do more for longer and that'll be excellent...

Well best of luck with that Jim...I hope it helps. Sounds very plausible, and well done for saying wanting fix the cars more. Why not. It is a hobby. Most important to get the priorities right.

I really must do more exercise, you feel so much better for doing it. Consequence of sitting at a computer all day...ya get tubby

I'm too big for my size (?) but I do have a big daft dog that I walk every day, and that does make me feel better about the world even when the weather is poo.

I've been thinking of a dog partly as walking them every day must really help fitness and I notice that walking a dog can be a very sociable experience. People seem to find a dog a great conversation opener - I like that...

Until such times and not until I retire I must do other things as I won't have a dog until I have full time to devote to one so in just over an hour I'm off for a swim before work...

I really fancy a Spaniel; maybe a Springer as they seem to reflect my personality quite well...
