They ARE the same car.. I think yours REALLY should be a Citroen XM 2.o Turbo SEi "Prestege"...

The Premier, Onyx and Prestege were run out special editions on the run to S2 cars. Premier was Base model, Onyx was S trim, and prestege was SE trim..

So both cars are really SEi cars.

As for the Alarm LED and push button, this is fact a crude factory addition to the cars original harness, and it can be completely removed from the car.. The push button does the same job as the Xantia push button when the plip is AWOL....

My one on the Onyx started playing up and setting the Alarm off if I used the PLIP to lock the car

I think it depends on the actual year of manufacture.
Citroen started to use "Prestige" for XM's in the UK well before the Mk1 run out year.
I have found a list of dates and models:

Oct 1989 - XM UK launch - 2.0i, 2.0Si, 2.0SEi, 3.0Si, & 3.0SEi.
May 1990 - D, SD & SED.
July 1990 - V6-24V
June 1991 - Special edition "Prestige" (£19245) based on 2.0SEi launched in UK.
Nov 1991 - Estate luanched.
Apr 1992 - Minor facelift to all models (2 spoke wheel etc).
May 1992 - Special edition 2.0i "Premiere" (£16995) and "Prestige" (£19245) launched.
(Note that Parkers guide swapped those names for a good few editions and this did serious damage to the Prestige branding).
Jun 1993 - Hydractive 2, All models ABS, Cruise control and sports alloys on some models.
Feb 1994 - Special edition 2.0i Turbo "Premiere", "Onyx" and "Prestige" hatchbacks plus "Onyx" estate launched in UK.
Jun 1994 - Major facelift - Phase 2 XM's - 2.5TD engine.

Random fact/bit of info in that when we picked up the Prestige my cousin said to me that he paid £18,000 for the Prestige when he bought it new - good on him for getting a discount!

By then it wouldn't be difficult to get a discount on an XM, it was only the first few years that Citroen held fast.

One of my clients got about £10,000 off a new 24v during the early 1990s that had been sitting in the London main dealer showroom for over a year!! With regards, Matthew T.

Gentlemen, thank you so much for identifying what my car is. So the insurance mob were right!

Very sadly Paul it was traded in for about £300 and then scrapped!! Unfortunately I only found out about six months later and I have never quite forgiven the couple, who said they were thinking of giving it to me, knowing I was an enthusiast!!! The car was in good condition with only about £100K. With regards, Matthew T.
