Well, if you want the ultimate XM, a mk1 24V is for sale at WHM. Matthew I believe might be checking it out for us to see!!!

My 75 was in British Racing Green, which is what initially drew me to the car, against the chrome trims, it just looked great despite being the relatively basic Classic SE version.I do miss that car! I would have another but it wouldn't be a 1.8 again, the V6 has three timing belts which is very off-putting for a cost point of vew and the diesel is reasonable but have clutch issues, a full replacement can cost up to £1200!


I have noticed WHM advertising that green 24v, I would think it is Davids old car or that would be at least 6 known RHD 24v manuals.

In the risk of getting a short ban, yes, the Volvo S60 is indeed a great car and the D5 engine is pretty decent too. I think if its not an XM then I fancy something smaller to dart around in, low running and maintenence costs and it'll be easier to store at home too. That little C2 would have been ideal but I wouldn't have another 1.4HDi. Trying to find something smallish that I like and is not devoid of character is not all that easy!

There is some size difference In fact, in character they are very different cars the XM and Xantia. One of each would go together just nicely!

That thought has crossed my mind too, but I think the Xantia may still be a bit too big for the range of users. I have fancied an Activa for myself... Perhaps we should get a car share scheme going

So what happened to the C2 Chris. Doesn't sound good.
I was actually quite impressed by the 1.0l petrol C2. It was plenty nippy enough. Good cars, but interior plastics are dreadful to be honest.
I quite like the Code version....bit pricy though I can imagine. Must hit autotrader and see!!!

DS3 or Skoda Fabia VRs TDi.

Just buy the grey Xm 2.1td being advertised.

I feel in some ways I should update this as it has been quite a few months, however I'm still XM-less so my update is not of real relevance!

Both of my Xantias are going very nicely, my Activa was awarded the best post 90s car at the Manchester Classic Car show, which I am delighted with. The Activa is now resting, probably over winter but I can never go too long without driving it. My HDi Exclusive Xantia has been out of daily service for almost six months, it is still in use, mainly as my my long distance car. Which was my aim to keep it away from my typical 100 miles per day commute and also out of the worst of the winter.

I did buy another Rover 75 about five months ago, which I really like and in my opinion this one is the model to have. A 2004 pre-facelift Connoisseur CDTi Auto saloon which I have had remapped, it has a good blend of performance and economy now. I love the colour too, which looks even better than my last one. Another great long distance car which has all of the bells and whistles and something I don't mind adding miles to.

I also have sorted out the replacement for the C2, which i found to be one of the worst built cars and so mine didn't last long before it developed quite a few costly faults. Not great as I want a small car to be dependable, if not totally interesting. I now have a VW Polo 1.4TDi as my town hack and general commuting car, its been in the family from new and is very suitable for what I want from a small car. I like the little 3 pot VAG diesel, this is my third car I've owned with it. Gutsy and brilliant on fuel, which is saving me a fotune.

I keep looking at XMs and there have been quite a few tempting examples available recently, especially Matthews SEi. However, four cars is more than enough for me at the moment. I seem to be running flat out lately and rarely have time for much besides what needs to be done.

Chris..great to see you posting again. dont boycot just because you dont have a french car!!

Is that polo tax free too because its under 99 g co2 or is it the older polo?
