Me too Russ. I did a lot on that car in the time I had it and also learned loads about the XM which I’m sure will stand me in good stead for V6 ownership...

One thing at least is fixed. The tailgate lock has started working after several applications of WD-40.

I'm hoping this weekend will be fine enough to apply some more minor TLC to the car and start getting it up to my standard.

Hi Jim

Car looks very good, same colour as mine. I see it has the proper exhaust; I'm running around with a s/h one from a 2.5, I tell myself it sounds more like a V8!

Good luck with fixing the cruise. Mine stopped working a couple of weeks ago, so would be interested to know how you get on.

Cheers

At least it sold and for reasonable money. That's some inflation on what Chris paid for it...but it has had quite a bit of work.

And one with two very shiny tailpipes too! Mine's not 100% perfect and I have a little leak at the end of the cat which is annoying me...

The exhaust does sound lovely though 8-)

Marc, I've done a good bit with cruise on the Xantia over the years. It's an identical system and I did a piece on the FCF about how to fix it...

The relay on the XM is in the auxiliary ECU box piggy-backed onto the main box and not under the wheel as it is on an S1 Xantia!

That should get you started. Any further questions, you know where I am ;)

I didn't see if the rear wing was fixed or now but I guess no more than a few moments with a skilled panel beater would have sorted it.

Indeed, a lot of work was done by both Chris and I. A good record of which can be found in this forum.

Franklin tells me it's gone to a good home :)

No need to imagine it sounding like a V8, a V6 makes one of the most glorious noises of any engine :)

And that J, is why I'm so addicted to them... 8-) :P

Engage sport mode on the gearbox, plant the pedal into the carpet and enjoy

That’s the 60 degree ES9 V6...

The 90 degree PRV V6 sounds even better, especially the 24V version. Like a choir of angels :D

A good day of spanners today...

But first, as requested by Matthew, a shot of the engine bay showing the bundle of fun under the bonnet 8-)

Image

And the interior. All very black and as cool as a cool thing:

I gave her an oil and filter change this morning. I don't believe the old oil was bad but I always like to do it for my own peace of mind. Whoever did it last had clearly had four Weetabix for breakfast as both the sump plug and oil filter were very tight indeed

Happily there's no leaks underneath from any component and I was happy to note that during her 300 mile run to Somerset and back not a spot of coolant was used. Unusual as it's my experience that the ES9 always seems to use a bit.

I also bled the rear brakes as I felt there was, compared to the Xantia, just a tad of brake delay. Just a little air came out and I was delighted to see the LHM is very fresh and very green :)

I tried again to get into the gearbox ECU with both the ELIT and Lexia but no joy. That is an odd one and I reckon there must be a wiring fault between the diagnostic plug and the ECU. Whatever is making the gear display flash is not at all problematic as the gearbox works perfectly...

The climate ECU looks a bit unhappy and I've asked in the sales and wants area for a spare if anyone has one. Lexia reports a load of unclearable faults relating to the blower and flaps so to rule out the ECU as the cause a swap of ECU is needed.

Again, it's not a showstopper as the heater works well enough to keep the car toasty warm on a day like today and it regulates temperature - it just can't make the blower run at anything other than half-speed...

I did intend to have the spheres off this afternoon and test them but the weather has intervened and I've decided that perhaps on a personal level I've done quite enough for one day. Maybe tomorrow.

I know the accumulator is good as I can hear the regulator ticking infrequently. Interestingly, the accumulator is a grey one. Also hydractive works a treat too but I do have my doubts on the total happiness of all the spheres and on the ride height which I'll make a separate post.

All in all, I remain very happy with the car and although not perfect is not at all bad. Just enough to do to keep me amused without struggling...

A gearbox oil change will be carried out soon as I've just entered into a deal to split a bulk buy of 20l of LT71141 with a fellow V6 owner :D The present oil looks and smells OK but knowing the box has been overhauled I'd like to change it for as bit of peace of mind really.

Those look like nice, large spheres on the front. The Exclusive I passed up was Silver with black headlining, I thought it was classy.
The height does look a tad high at the front.

Thanks Will, that bears out my feelings on the height. How do you adjust it?

I don't know how Citroen have done it really; you'd have thought a non-sunroof car with a black interior would be sombre and claustrophobic but it's just the opposite. I love it :P
