Pity they did not include the number of SORN declarations as well.
Now that would be particularly interesting for XM's.
When they release the 2008 figures then we will begin to understand how the figures are trending.

I checked most of the YBL XMs a while back and there were a lot on sorn and also many that were still listed but not taxed.

Strange - My Renault 30 passed an MOT in 2007 - but there are no R30s in the list (only 2 R20s ). I wonder if this is just sample data from the 'participating' MOT stations?

I suspect you have hit on a key point there.
It was only recently that the legal status of the MOT certificate was withdrawn and replaced by the DLVA computer record.
There was a transition of at least a year as garages changed from paper to all computerised MOT's before the law was changed.

It is odd though - the test document for that year is of the computer printout type (though I guess the switch in certificate might not have been tied to the centralised recording) and I'm fairly certain that I taxed the 30 on-line (I can't recall the last time I used a post office!) so I think it was in the system then - I could be wrong though.

I also notice that there's an Audi 80 that was first used on the road in 1883

Interesting data all the same. When time allows I might try to see if there are any trends - which models appear to shun the rust for example - as suggested by the types of failure.

Is it worth setting up a thread to list who owns what car/reg etc per year in a kind of unofficial register
or is this really anoraky - BTW, I'm not trying to brag about all the mouldering wrecks I've got either!!

Maybe not Andrew, the older the xm gets the more its going to be owned by enthusiasts, who will more than likely be on a forum or in a club of some kind, im sure within the next few years over half of xm's will fall into forum members hands at least.
