Ahh so my notes might be useful after all Eddie :D

The throttle pot is inside the flapper AFM and can suffer from bad tracks. In fact it's a common problem and there's a delicate job involving moving the wipers onto a previously unused area of track to resolve it...

Normally, for a dealer to fix it it's a new AFM and they're eye-wateringly expensive.

You're likely to still be able to find detailed instructions on doing the AFM pot on the 205GTi forum...

The throttle switch plays up too. Basically there's a pair of contacts that close on idle and another that close at WOT. The idle contacts can go intermittent and the only cure is a new throttle switch. Beware too someone who might in the past have tried to cure the idle by adjusting the butterfly stop directly and inadvertently taken the throttle switch out of use as a result. You can check the operation of it with an ohmmeter and looking for a reliable contact close as soon as the throttle is released and the butterfly returns to the idle position.

It's a Bosch LE2 jetronic, definitely..

Idle speed is set by the throttle body setscrew in the side of the throttle body, and the mixture is the airflow meter screw.

The auxiliary air valve should only be in operation when the engine is cold, to give fast idle. Check the wiring and engine temperature sensor. As a temporary measure, just disconnect it. This is a strightforward solenoid valve, so isn't proportional, it's either open or closed.

Idle speed should be 850rpm +-50rpm. I suspect that would give a fast idle of about 1000rpm.

Someone hasn't adjusted the throttle flap to attempt to set the idle have they. The throttle should be closed and the idle is adjusted by the air bleed screw.
You might just have a sticky throttle. (unlikely)

I stripped all the bits and bobs for the fuel and air supply and all bar two parts do the job as they're supposed to. There are two fuel lines which are perished and cracked and the piece of ducting from the throttle body to the AFM has been bodged badly where the two nozzles are at the back. This is where the air is getting into the system.

I gave the paintwork a damn good cut as well. I knew the roof and bonnet would take some doing but was surprised at how much work the bottom of the doors needed to bring the paintwork back. Just needs a polish now - when I can find time.

The speedo has developed a fault. It flicks either side of the speed as your driving.

The headlining I thought I had from the scrapper on here is not the kind I need. Only after I sent photos of the courtesy light and the aperture it fits to did it become obvious that this G plate scrapper had the newer bigger "H" style courtesy light and so is no good for my car. The only other options I seem to have with this is to buy a car with it in, wait for the right car to come up as a scrapper, get one from France, or make one myself. At the moment the latter seems the easiest and probably quickest solution, if not the most desirable.

Bad luck about the headlining. Unfortunately you have a bit of a challenge there I think.

Speedo flicker is quite normal. Mine is fine above 40. I did manage to sort of fix it when I was fixing the dash binnacle. But it is slowly getting worse again. It's the old storey of a cable forced into stupid shapes that get them in the end. You can get new ones made up quite cheaply, but fitting them is a challenge to say the least...well so I understand!

The flickering speedo is a common trait, it's the convoluted cable run. Try putting a cut down 3.5mm LHM seal over the inner cable where it meets the speedo head, to act as a damper.

Hi Eddie

On the headlining there is another option I think.
Have found and checked the two types of light and a removed standard sunnroof.
As far as I can see both the lights only fix to the roof with two screws at the front.
These front screws have the same spacing and roof fixing position.
For the trapizium light these two screws are the only fitting.
The two rear screws on the other type of light fix to two shaped metal brackets screwed to the sunroof frame.

I think you could fit the other type of roof lining provided you have those brackets and light.
I can send you the brackets and a light (grey) if you want to check this out in your car.

I think the issue is that the sunroof aperture is different on Eddies car, so a regular sunroof lining won't fit properly.

Thinking further, since this is an aftermarket (although fitted by Citroen UK) sunroof, the headlining must have been one for a no sunroof car which was modified at installation.
That really is the answer.

John, thanks for the offer but my intention has always been to keep this car as close to original as possible.

Will, that's the unfortunate conclusion I've come to and, hence, I think the only way forward is to make my own. I have a headlining from a "H" style courtesy light roof which is in good condition. I need a small amount of the blue/grey material and a dry sunny day. I could make good use of the front part of a headlining, foam included.

I've given up on the idea of having Goldie completed by Wetherby but will be there with her on Sunday. The roof will be as it is for all to see and any advice will be taken on board.

I have the foam, but the material fell off and the foam has been bent over, but is probably salvageable.

Do you want it?
