Re: Anthracite XM 2.0 SEi Turbo Manual
So I refitted the bodged set up after the bubbles were cleared.
The HP pump makes a terrible noise when it's churning air. I thought the noise from the pump lately was partly due to the pump being worn out but it was nearly silent when the LHM was clear of bubbles.
Nice working now - the hydraulics are working well. The ride quality is far better purged of air. PAS is very light now too - I'd been a bit disappointed on the performance of the PAS after the epic replacement of the PAS pinion valve but it was all down to air suction.
I'll see how it runs for a week or so and then thoroughly bleed the brakes.
I'm still going to need a replacement LHM tank filter core - has anyone got one??

They all do this when re filled with lhm or work is done on the system, citrobatics will clear the air out but it must be done slowly, up to full height first then to minimum height and then left for a couple of minutes for the bubbles to rise and then repeat, I was never convinced by the return extension, the bubbles fill the whole tank in my experience so its difficult to avoid collecting them.
I have a tps plug for you here I dug out today, only mk2 hydractive plugs though I'm afraid.

Ah that's great Dean - the hydractive plug is less urgent now I filled the the rewired ECU socket with clear resin so it's well protected from moisture etc.
Yes, I saw how the bubbles got everywhere in the tank but they just wouldn't go away after 2 hours so I resorted to the filter block out method.
Anyway, it's one of the last bigger jobs attended to.
I also adjusted the windscreen washer jets as they were all seized but all freed off now and readjusted... there's some issue with the headlight aim too: the dipped beams are ok but one of the main beams is too high but since adjusting the height affects both dipped and main together there must be something wrong with one of the main beam reflectors or bulb holders. Ran out of time to investigate that.
Reverse lights also seem not to work until a good few seconds after engaging reverse - I traced the fault to the actual switch on the gearbox itself - might be the connector but yet to remove it due to the access and running out of time (the LHM job took a good few hours)
The Hydractive bodly movement sensor has stopped driping the LHM that had filled it up so it should be more or less purged of LHM but the sensor still isn't really working well unless a really huge dip in the road is met. Might simply be that it does work but that the effect of it on Hydractive 1 is less than on 2 (that I have experience)
Lastly, the trip computer problem persists. The range of the fuel tank displays and changes for the first 5-10 minutes of driving. The Mpg and anverage Mpg only ever show 99.9 mpg and the avearage speed works fine. Then after 10 mins the range, mpg and mean mpg all fault out and just show flashing segments. This happens each time. Restarting the car sees it repeat this. Filling up the fuel sees the range increase by amounts that appear fairly sensible and accurate Eg. from range of 90 miles left to over 250miles left after a top up to just over half a tank doesn't seem wildly off the mark to me. But as ever it changes to flashing segments after 10 minutes.
I'd change the chipped ECU for the standard one if only I could find someone with a spare ECU!

It sounds like the fuel consumption pulses are not getting from the engine ECU to the trip computer. I think the pulses are best seen with an oscilloscope or a LED with a resistor.

Graeme,
Well done on nailing the air-in-LHM problem. Someone, somewhere must have a tank core. Try reposting under sales/wants.
If an engine ECU is difficult to find, maybe someone would lend you a substitute for the non-standard chip?

Hi Chris, that would be the way to go - What I need is the Stan Platts of XMs! For the CX he has just about anything, knows them all like the back of his hand, posts quickly and doesn't charge much on principle.. too bad he's losing his yard.

Re: Anthracite XM 2.0 SEi Turbo Manual
Well after the HP pump pipe job it has been great. The new accumulator and FDV have made some changes to the performance. I noticed that the suspension was staying up at normal height for ages! It was at the exact same height next day and the suspension was staying up throughout the day. I was quite impressed as this XM is usually visibly lowered at the back within an hour and front and back well on their way down after a few hours. Then last week I was away over to Waterford for a week - XM parked up at a colleague's drive way on Monday morning and when I returned on Friday night the suspension was STILL up... the front had lowered but not fully but the rear was completely at normal hight after 4 full days! It is still staying up overnight now. It's like having anti sink
Pressure regulator tick time is in the several minutes level so I think the hydraulics are really pretty healthy.
This evening I exited supermarket and spotted two guys looking at the XM then one went to look in the window - still occasionally gets some attention! XM possibly slowly moving into classic status?
It has been running well now without the horrible bucking at one throttle position. Nice smooth turbo performance but when the temperature is lower than about 4 degrees in the morning it still cuts out at a few stop lights in the morning. Always restarts and soon heats up and runs well. Still no fault codes recorded.
So it's become quite nice to drive now and the suspension is brilliant and I definately prefer hydractive 1
Cold weather has now twice caused the rear hatch unable to open.. I think it's just ice...

Cheers Chris! One thing I do need but keep forgetting about is a new radiator cap as the rubber seal is going on this one. Anyway, thanks - more to report soon!
