Crikey, sounds like it was very poorly! What is the engine normally in?

Bought for peanuts because of the failed engine... Gorgeous little cars but you need incredibly deep pockets to run and own one.. Not only does it drink oil and water at a prodigious rate but it's also highly taxed like big 4x4s and things because of the equivalent displacement of the engine... Even though it's displacement is about 1300 cc it's seen as being more like a 3.5 litre...

Owner is now wondering what to do as if the rotor housings are toast he's looking at a bill for £2,000 in parts alone even before any rebuild starts and then there's the allied parts like a new clutch with is eye-watering at £350...

he really needs a lottery win...

He's looking at possible engine swaps and is eyeing up an ES9 V6 as a possible contender...

That's fraught with all kinds of problems and could be as expensive, if not more...

One went through the auctions last night - £1500

I once considered getting an RX 8. There are plenty around here, Hiroshima being the place where they are built

So Mazda are your local car maker then Jan, just as Aston Martin once was mine. Until 2008 Astons were made about 100 yards from my house...

Now the site is derelict and due to become a Tesco supermarket Aston Martin still have a big showroom in the town and they keep their classic restoration workshops here too so we're still treated to the sight of some very tasty classic Astons running around the town.. They really are some lovely cars...

I'm looking forward to a drive when this RX-8 is done to see what all the fuss is about..

My XM has been in our local garage these past couple of days receiving attention to the exhaust. It cost £81 but now I have a lovely quiet exhaust - so quiet I can barely hear the engine... Worth every penny

That and the new tyres has made one heck of a difference to the car. It's truly lovely... So utterly, utterly refined. Like driving oiled silk and I'm sure with new spheres it'll be even better

There's one thing missing from the XM. And it annoys me. It really needs a proper footrest for your left foot. Perhaps it's me but I can't get my left foot as comfy as it should be. It does nothing so it should be permitted to do nothing in comfort.

Anyone made a footrest?

You know, that is a good point. But It clearly doesn't bother me as I forget about my left foot entirely. Never noticed it not having a foot rest. Ha!

The C6 has a great foot rest.

What you need to do Jim is off your column stalks rig a nice little hammock for it, some soothing music, et voila....one rested foot

I envy you on seeing lots of classic aston martins round your way.......very special and beautiful machines

That's not a bad thought Will - install a dummy clutch pedal.. That would really confuse
