Those are the worst, a lilac colour maybe. Will be the weekend before I get chance again so will have a good go then.Dieselman wrote:Don't forget to do the slim window guides as well, it makes significant difference to the overall look.
Vince put me onto a Meguiers restore product which I'm pleased with . . . but I'm never against trying something else.

I know, it is odd, but it works. I put it on mine. My silver trims are quite bad, the plastics goes opaque and dull, some nut oil soaks into the trim and you get silver trim back.
The window trims I have done too. Painted that is. I would use an etching primer. I didn't and it has chipped a bit. Cold weather and snow got to it I think. Just mask up and spray em up. Looks soooo much nicer when they are done.

Went to look at a S1.5 today as the headlining is "excellent". Some folks idea of "excellent" is different to mine.
Did become plain though that the new headlining must be out of a S1 car to fit the front courtesy light. Only other possibility is to get one out of a S1.5 but take the moulding, courtesy light and its fixings. This is becoming a real pain in the derriere.
Trundled home to set about removing the interior in order to fit the new one on Saturday. Seats came out easy (left the driver seat in for now). On removing the front door cards I found out why the radio doesn't work. It lights up, changes channel etc but no noise comes from it . . . well it won't do with no speakers!!!
The wires have been cut and left hanging bare.
Found something else that concerns me. On the bottom of the NSF door the door card has been hiding a sizable patch of rust. Rubbed off with a screwdriver to reveal a fair sized hole which is going to need seeing to before the card goes back on.
In the engine bay the rubber on the OS strut is starting to perish. Advice please on best way forward to remedy this before it's too late.
But I have got a glove-box catch, so it hasn't been a completely dead loss day.

Re: Gold 2.0Si
I'm fed up of finding rust. So I sympathise! Very annoying about the speakers. I wonder if the previous owner had better ones wired in and simply cut them out to retrieve them. Just a thought!
So where did you source an interior from Eddie? we didn't finish chatting at the X rally, sorry, I think I got distracted with buyers!

For the strut top, do you mean the upper rubber or lower? If upper then just peel it off and treat the metal as long as it hasn't got to too rusty.

Re: Gold 2.0Si
I seem to remember a few early Mk1's were retrofitted with sunroofs.
Design used included size differences compared to factory one so non standard.
Existing headlining had hole cut to suit.
Trapezium shaped interior light is standard on non sunroof cars not a series 1/1.5/2 variation.
A minefield to source spares for I suspect.

Re: Gold 2.0Si
Which is presumably why it has no headlining.

Do you mean that the trapezium shaped light is standard on all non-sunroof cars or just S1 cars?xmexclusive wrote:Trapezium shaped interior light is standard on non sunroof cars not a series 1/1.5/2 variation.
I've had the moulding down as far as possible and had a good look at the fixing points for the courtesy light. AFAICS without taking the whole lot down and comparing with the fixing points of the larger light the two are not compatible and new fixing points would have to be made. That's a step too far for me. So in order to keep the car as it is I either callifudge a S1.5/S2 headlining to fit the moulding in the car, or find a S1 breaking with either a sunroof or not but with the trapezium light. The latter is going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack and I'm not prepared to wait until that scenario arises. So, unless anyone has any other suggestions, I need a decent headlining from a S1.5/S2 car and some extra cloth to fit to suit.

My non-sunroof S2 has the same one... I was a little surprised to see the light unit remained the same from the earliest to the last...Eddie nuff wrote: Do you mean that the trapezium shaped light is standard on all non-sunroof cars or just S1 cars?
