Hello! Long time since i last posted here. The car is working gr8, now i want to change the gearbox with a HDI one with cables and hydraulic clutch.

The conversion to an HDi ML5T gearbox with hydraulic clutch and cable change will be a nightmare. Why are you thinking about doing this?

Why is it a nightmare?
I have some trouble with my gearbox and found a cheap HDI one.

I need to buy one more part for the clutch to get started.
I have the gearbox with cables, stick, hydraulic clutch circuit from a xantia 2.0 HDI 110 HP and a clutch pedal from a 2.5 Xm.

If you have all those bits then it will be very much less of a nightmare although I expect still quite a task given the pedal box many need changing...

Being a LHD car may make it easier perhaps...

You may need different driveshafts too...

It will be a good modification though as the ML5T has a very smooth and slick gear change and the hydraulic clutch is very light.

Yes and the gear ratios are more balanced resulting in a better ride and a better fuel consuption.

That will be an interesting conversion, please post up the project. I wonder if the ratios might be a bit too long for the XUD output and rev range.

That's a good point Will but I did a bit of research into this a while back when I had a 110 HDi Xantia with a noisy 'box. I discovered the 2.1TD Xantia 'box was in fact very similarly ratio'd and differed only marginally in first, reverse and the final drive. The difference was so small I was all ready to drop the 2.1 'box in the HDi when it failed. It never did and to this day is still going (noisily) about its merry way.. I'm sure a 2.1TD will have no trouble working with a 110 HDi 'box...

Another one we did was to drop an Xantia HDi 90 (BE3) 'box into a 1.9TD Xantia. The HDi 90 'box was taller everywhere but was found to suit the 1.9TD very nicely.
