Hi all,

Citroen Service shows part no 454563 as a Bendix front ABS sensor (NFP) for only one model INJECTION ZPJ4 SINCE RPO 07109. Previous part was 96 161 385 (also NFP)

Was there a caliper modification at this time corresponding to the late front brake re-design?? - just a guess

PS For Mk4 Teves users the front sensor 454552 is still available at £54.16 whereas the rear sensor 454553 (NFP) is/was £94.87.

There was no caliper modification.
The V6-24v Mk2 continued to be fitted with standard Bendix ABS post 7109 when all other XM models got Teves.
Hence the odd ABS listing. Can also be traced through the ABS pipe work which changed with Teves.
Only LHD cars were made to special order.

I have a similar problem. It´s an MOT failure if not corrected. Could there be a substitute part if a Bendix can´t be found? The problem here is the small numbers of donor cars that now remain. One of these days they will be nigh on impossible to source as the remaining XMers scavenge the parts to keep their cars running. It´s worrying.

It is and I've been pondering exactly the same question. There must be a sensor that with some subtle modifications, will do the job.

Else that, remove the ABS system completely.

Yu only need to find a similar sized sensor with the same resistance reading.. didn't someone say VAG . sensors were suitable or was that for xantia...

Xantia but then they should be OK for XM Teves systems I would have thought.

It's the Bendix ones that's the problem Paul...

I did read of some enterprising soul who made their own sensors from magnets and copper wire somewhere and if memory serves it was somewhere out in Eastern Europe...

I stuck a VAG sensor into a Bendix XM. It kept the light out, but the ABS didn't work. Must have been the same resistance, but the coil winding was in the wrong place.

Hi all, a thought, perhaps not too radical. Would a 4 wheel sensor change - or at least same axle - for Teves sensors be a viable route ?. Resistance values are ok, but core and coil alignment are unknown. Connector mismatch is easily overcome.

Robert, if a VAG sensor kept the light out then the ABS ECU must have been happy with what it was seeing. Unless it only kept the light out on the static test and re-lit it on the dynamic test the ABS should have been functional.

In what way was it not functional with a VAG sensor? Did it activate when moving slowly?
