In my experience insurance companies just register the car category on the system.
They then use contractors to dispose of the car.
If you as owner opt to retain the car for a price then they do not even notify you of the category listing.
You are just advised that the car is beyond economic repair and paid your settlement.
They may insist on the V5 for cancellation for cat C cars but not always.
If the V5 is cancelled then the car has to be VIC checked by VOSA (fee) before a new V5 is issued by the DVLA (fee).
This new V5 will show any insurance damage category listing the car now has.
The VIC check is focused on preventing car ringing rather than checking the damage repairs.

If I wanted that as a car the damage wouldn't put me off one bit. It looks like it's been driven through a fence or similar. the damage is the bumper is a bit misaligned, headlamps, scuffed nose-cone, needs a bonnet and the wing needs a repair.

Cat C are perfectly safe to put back on the road. As said it will require a VIC to have a new v5 issued, but also if inspected by Autolign following the repairs, the category can be changed to inspected.

Strangely, it appears to have had paint to the O/s sill and front wing at sill height.

If I wanted it as a daily driver, I'd buy that.

Wow... never ceases to amaze me how people (well, insurance companies) will throw away near perfect cars over very minor cosmetic damage... its not like it even has any serious metal dented... two headlights and a respray of the grille panel and bonnet, could fix it for less than a couple of hundred including parts and painting, crazy.

One owner from new and dealer serviced too, makes you wonder what the owner was thinking, or if they got a choice, in it being written off, something doesn't add up given its such a clean and obviously well loved car...

Someones going to get a right bargain there, looks like a cracker.

/EDIT: Ok I hadn't seen that the wing was indeed damaged, but even so, a steal for someone who wants a clean well cared for car that'll drive for hundreds of k yet...

We had a poster come on here about six months ago saying he had damaged his car in a similar fashion and he accepted the insurance pay-out.
I wonder if it's the same car?

Possibly even Robert needed another one. Even I was thinking about it and I don't want either a series 2 or another car at present.
