I think the DERVs didn't sit for long as they were bought by companys, and were also appealing back then for the XUD 11 excellent MPG (Remember it was 1990 so it was around 70ppl..) and high refinement.

I think 70ppl is a bit high for 1990, I have a photo of a 18 year old me (taken in 1992) in Devon with a petrol station in the background showing diesel at 45ppl. It was actually around 70ppl in 1999 and still less than £1 in 2009.

Just come back from Australia where diesel was 80ppl, although could go as high as £1.20 in the outback & remote locations. My 2.5 XM runs happily on veg oil

All nothing to do with VIN numbers of course.

2.5 XM's will as they had Bosch system... were as the 2.1's were mix n mash through the years.

Starting off in 1990 with plastic inlet manifold and Lucas Mechanical.
Then around 1993 alloy inlet manifold and Bosch Muchanical
Then from around 1996/7 a change back to Lucas with EPIC.

I was only giving price examples off the top of my head..

Ive got a Manderin S1 on a J 1991 Plate, Turbo D base with NO ABS (This Model is here with me in works car park)

My first XM though, was a 2.oi Base, that did have ABS though..

Also IIRC correctly a year or so ago I went to see another white Base Turbo D XM in white, that also didn't have ABS...

My first S1 didn't have ABS, the second SD did. I suspect it was standard on all but base cars initially then dropped then brought back in as the S1 ran out in 1994.
Regarding companies buying 2.1 instead of 2.0i they didn't because of the higher initial purchase price and the additional taxation. The 2.1 was £1200 more to buy and pushed the car into the highest employee company car tax bracket. Mine was crippling on tax..but I loved it as a car.

Have you got those VIN numbers yet...

As a matter of fact I just happen to have the log book in work in a box, and have it here..

VIN in PM.. But Ill leave you to tell me the Date of Reg and see iif your right!!!

I remember the reg date being late, but the ORGA puts the build date at 16 May 1990.

So by build I think Pauls is the oldest RHD but by registration mine might be having been regd. in Oct 1990...

Interestingly, there only seem to be a certain number of S1 with the AF0002 number, it's as if AF0001 stopped early then became AF0002 for the remainder of that production run.

Will. My landloards h plate sed has the same rp number. Ill get the vin on friday. His may be either earlyer or slightly later....

Even thought they have the same RP number they may not have very close VIN numbers. It seems that some cars went out of sequence.

The VIN numbers are 309 apart.

Interestingly, it doesn't show as being RHD, so maybe they didn't all get recorded.
No heated seats shown either...

Nope there isnt either. Mine has.the.switches but.ive not looked.to see if.the heaters are actually fitted
