Oh well -- after a weekend sitting staring at the computer and various reocurrences of the virus, seem to be clear of it now. Eventually found most of the files (I think !) myself and finished up with a Malwarebytes scan. All clear now, but the keyboard issue remains -- have decided to leave that for another day, as the PS2 one is working fine.

Meanwhile, have horrible feeling I must have made another c**k up. Decided to download IE8. Whether it's connected or not, I don't know, but now if I use either Google or Bing, instead of getting through to the page selected on the search engine, most times it goes to a commercial site or 'Ask Jeeves'. Really bemused by this, as I don't see why one search engine would send you to another. They have gone instantly from being a useful tool to a frustrating waste of time. Anyone else had this and found the reason ? Have uninstalled IE8, but no difference to the search engine issue. B****y computers !!!!!!!

That sounds like your HOSTS file may have been compromised so be wary of entering any confidential data. Download Spybot S&D and perform a full scan. It's good at finding issues other programs can't.

After you install IE8 and install it when it had finished installing it offers you 2 options to change the web browser and if you dont tell it what to do it will install the default setting,All you have to do is set your home page in internet options to the home page you want.
