The thing that really irks is that a very few seconds of mindless behaviour takes ages to sort out.
I am sorry that, like me, you now have to sort all this out. It's happened four times in six months in our and two of our cars have suffered damaged.

I think that window is bonded in but you might be able to remove one by cutting the bonding with a retractable knife or cheese wire then clean off the mastic and re-stick it in. The window guide appears to be a separate item so it might be worth removing that and having a look.

They were obviously attempting to burgle the car. Was anything useful on display?

The only good news here is that you still have your car. Some aren't so lucky. Little consolation I know.
I have some spare doors here and could attempt to cut the window out of one for you if you want. I've managed to get other pieces of glass out using the special "cheese wire"

Sorry to learn of your miss-fortune of being in the wrong place at at the wrong time I KNOW how you must be feeling

I spotted THIS on E-Bay, it may be of help in part way repairing some of the damage !

As already mentioned the window will be the hardest to sort out and make sure ALL minute particles of glass which may have entered the rear lock mechanism is removed as any traces could impair the lock to function correctly as I once found out when my N/S rear window got smashed out by a opportunist's 'Tea-leaf' who stole some items which were on show (unfortunately which I forgot to take into the house over night), best of luck with the repair's.

The XM workshop manual indicates the use of adhesive, bonding, only for front, rear and quarter panel glass. Not for the fixed glass panels in the doors.

These door panes are bonded in as well. Quite a pain.

Really sorry to hear about the vandalism to your car Ciaran and I know how it feels having had the rear wing of my gold V6 stoved in by some other thugs recently. As keenly spotted by Paul, I have the exact same door pane broken on my latest acquisition and I have removed the remainder of the glass fragments. I can confirm that the only glued edges are the top and rear diagonal, with the base and front diagonal held by seals. My plan is to get a quote for new replacement glass as I very much doubt you would get an old window out intact. Do let us know how you get on. With regards, Matthew T.

Know exactly how you feel -- we've had about four mirrors smashed off and one glass broken this year. Luckily, the glass was in the Landy, so an easy fix. It's the mindlessness of it that really gets me. If they actually had enough brains to steal the car and sell it, or take something worth having at least there would be some logic to it, but this ham fisted vandalism really makes me see red. Strikes me the one thing these morons don't like is being laughed at --- so I'd have the stocks back --- let the little turds sit in them for a day or two and offer a copious supply of unpleasant things for people to lob at them. After that, how about some of those exploding collar devices they used in one of the Arnie films ??
