My old foreman had a thing about Oxford's and Cambridges. I think he had 2 of each at one time.

but then who really cares.

I hope my son can take pride in my xm one day.....but then again im not even married yet

The ones you were refering to were later than mine, they may have changed the engines, I don't know. My Hawk was a '58 and had a 4 cylinder 2 ltr engine, my first Snipe was also a '58 and had a 2.6 litre straight six with a very complicated Stromberg carb but returned about 27 mpg on a run, the second Snipe was 1960 and had a 3 ltr straight six with an ordinary Zenith Carb and did about 17 mpg!

They were a very heavy car so I could't see them using a smaller engine, but you may well be right, I will have to ask my wife, she used to be very good on vehicle specifications.

You were right Peter, I looked again and saw the S Snipe was a 3 ltr, as was the imperial..

Please don't forget the DS was preceded by the Traction Avant. A beautiful classic. Late TA models were equipped with hydraulic suspension on the rear axle.

Of course you could debate the meaning of 'classic'. If you ask me the XM, whose production started in 1989, already IS a classic. And so, of course, is the CX.

Who cares?
Many of us here and elsewhere, I am sure.

How can you say just the DS!

The CX, the SM, and quite possibly the GS aswell! ALL Classics, as there was nothing else that looked or rode like them!

This is the thing that bugs me most in the CCC, is the place that the DS occupies in the club. Don't get me wrong smashing car, light years ahead of the competition at launch in '55. There are a lot of DS people in the club who don't even acknowledge the existance of any of the other cars. The DS should be celebrated etc, but it shouldn't be the detriment to the rest of the Citroen Range.

The CX was the areodynamic car of its day, CX is the abbreviation for Drag Co-efficient in French, and its a more capable car than the DS, its shorter, more roomier indside, less prone to Rot.

A lot of the more recent cars are notable too, the BX was the first mass produced cars that used a lot of plastics and fibreglass. Plastic bumpers, fibreglass bonnet and tailgate, fibreglass C pillar skin, and perspex window on the early BXs. Same applies to the AX. The XM and its piloted Hydractive suspension etc etc.

dont get me wrong. Regardless whether its regarded as a classic or otherwise, we will still love the xm. Thats what i meant.
looking at e-bay and other similar sales in asia, the prices of the car is in the following order with the pricey ones on top.
DS
CX
XM
BX (sometimes given free)

ds is somewhat regarded as a collectors item. CX and XM is not there yet....perhaps it needs a couple of years more.
Citroen communities recognise the value and the uniqueness of the xm, the rest thinks its an old junk.

On the other side of the story, lots of ppl admire it,but dare not touch it. Fear of the unknown.

Practical Classics thinks a little different.

They have at last listed the First Series 1, V6 models as worth, or gaining value, I think they price a S1 MINT car at 2 grand, then about a grand for Cond 2 then about 400 for cond 3...

They do not specify Auto or manual though...

Bodes well for diesels then, since it's V6 cars that usually comand the least..
