I doubt the dealer in Edinburgh has ever seen my model of XM

when i took my old CX in there not one of the mechanics had ever worked on one - most hadn't ever seen one.

2 years ago I took a low mileage Volvo 940 Sport Estate (hooligan of a car) to the Volvo dealer for a service and MOT - the car had only done 180k - nothing for one of these - the dealer tried to get me to buy an V70 - no thanks says I - they are not 'proper' volvos IMHO. And besides 0 the 940 had been built to do 250k and had some life in it yet - one £800 service later timing belt, water pump, etc...told them to change the fan belt while they were at it as it desperately needed one - anyway - 1 week later the wife is on the A1 north of Newcastle with our 1 year old in the back of the car - heavy rain - car breaks down - aa called - fan belt! - the muppets had not replaced the fan belt - despite having to take it off to replacce the cam belt!!!! useless erses!!!

never again!!

Haha, get Robert to tell you about the time he had his CX down at one of our main squealers......

Yeah, I was driving past the main Citroen Stealer in Belfast, not in any hurry, I popped in to have a nosey at the C6. I parked the Cx at the entrance to the showroom. When I was walking into the showroom, everyone was walking out. I thought it strange, and turned round to see them all looking at the CX.

None of them had seen one before, the usual "does it have the suspension that goes up and down" type of questions.

I wouldn't even bring a Xantia to a main Stealer, they still would be baffled!

The best bit I thought, was when one of the mechanics said "What's a CX??"

Just in-case XM Forum member's/guest's don't go on the BXC of FCF !

I thought I'd post the same here as I've done on the FCF to make every-one aware !

I went to Citroen Glasgow in my XM once to get something trivial for it.... can't remember what it was.

The parts guy was standing outside having a fag when I got there.

I walked into the parts dept and asked for the part. He asked me what car it was for. I said the grey XM that you've just watched me arrive in.

His reply was an I quote "That's not a Citroen".......

Thankfully he redeemed himself and got me the right part though!

Reminds me of the time I got pulled by traffic for doing Citrobics at a set of traffic lights...... They pulled me as they didn't think the suspension was roadworthy if it was doing that........

I had to demonstrate to them that I could control it with the lever myself and it wasn't the car doing the movements on it's own!!

Just for info, though the VOSA system has a record of a failure that doesn't negate the existing certificate, that is still valid until the expiry date.

Just a word of warning.
Have posted some comments on FCF.
If a replacement MOT is obtained during the currency of an existing MOT the old certificate is no longer valid.
The MOT certificate is no longer the legal document.
The legal status of the car is the last record held by VOSA at Swansea.
