Try an old Audi 100 TD. It had a large tank and great MPG which gave it a true 1000 mile range.

See your HDI XM project Paul, make sure its a C5 you sacrifice! And not a Xantia!

No other reasons, just prefer the Xantia to the C5!

Car already sacrified, it was a Xantia but however, the car had 250k on it, cracked windscreen, cracked rear bumper and rear hatch, all seats and centre arm rest had tears in the trim, exhaust was buggered at the rear box, it was tax and tested for 2 months, the engine was a replacement and I beleved it to after my 2 months road test, so she was a bit far gone and miles too high to save..

Besides, I cant afford to buy C5's they still seem to get stupid money... find me a C5 110hdi for 200 quid then fair enough!

Ok, point taken, C5s aren't cheap enough.

Do you know how many miles this replacement engine has done? You don't want to go to all that trouble for it not to last too long.

Have you got a XM donor lined up to take the HDI yet?

Ive got another engine here that ran, so Ive got NO problems, or even Im not worried what so ever about trouble!

What is it with everyone slanging the HDi engines! Petrol Injection engines are VERY reliable, so why cant a HDi, its Basically the same idea, a Fuel rail under pressure, and a pulse to open the injectors! Theres only a Cam sensor, fuel rail pressure sensor, and a stop sensor on the end of the pump, oh and I THINK a Fuel temp sensor... Get a collection of these, along with injectors your costs will be nulled!!

I dont know the milage of the engine that was in the car, but put it this way, it did 58mpg, did NOT use a drop of oil, and the coolant also never moved, coupled with spare injectors etc etc.. whats to worry about!

I'm not starting on the HDIs!! We have a HDI 136 in my Dad's C5, and it is fine. The only trouble with it was the bloody EGR pish fouling. Luckily under warranty.

I don't want you to go to the trouble of converting it, and finding out that the particular engine you put in was goosed!

Good luck with the project when you get it started.

It's because the pumps are fragile and injector tolerances are so fine that the internal seals start leaking with regular monotony.

The theory is good but due to cost cutting the practice isn't quite so.

Rubbish! It will be! As I said, stock up pleanty of spares then theres nothing to be worried about, oh and by the way, I ONLY use top fuel. I NEVER goto Tescos or any supermarket! Texaco, Esso or Shell is all I use!

As for the engine Robert, It got well and truely tested, as I said the car was Legal, and it came from Norfolk, to me in Anglesey, took me to work for 2 weeks (250 mils a week), then went on a few more GOOD journeys, so I KNOW its a good unit
