Diesels virtually never push water into the oil. The high compression leaks intot eh water jacket and the geyser erupts from the header tank.

The descision was made after a tag was made on facebook to buy a head which had been pressure tested skimmed and valves fitted along with correct multi layer head gasket also a gasket set and new head bolts plus a cam belt kit...
I think the whole lot was 100 quid.. So tonight i managed to strip the manifolds off the old head also swapped the injectors across and the hydraulic lifters, water temp sensor housing and water outlet and also top hose outlet and fuel filter heater... So the re-assembly commences..
I have also concluded the the car had already had a recent head gasket swap but im not convinced it was done well at all.. It haddnt lasted long.. Manifold bolts were not particularly tight either and there was a couple missing from the inlet one..
It say WHM had been around the car doesnt inspire me much confidance...

Well. I battled on.. what a job.. reassembled differently. I put the exhaust onto the pipe first.. so I could get both connecting pipe to manifold studs on.. then fitted the head.. then fitted the inlet and rebuilt her back up..
I then had an issue of an air leak on boost ... but discovered it was a dodgy inlet manifold to head gasket issue. Bought another and refitted it all and alls well. .
Car drives nicely.. but the starter is a bit will she wont she turn over. . Both lh and rh displays are no good... though the rh sometimes does work.. the speed sensor is also dodgy too and cruise doesnt work. The abs light goes out after sequence but abs doesnt function and she locks up. Need to put lexia on and see if the ecu is seeing the sensors... tye good news is being a late car it uses the same abs as mk.2 xantias.. of which I have a few spare abs ecus..
this means the xm went through three stages of abs systems..
so.. getting there and therefore a good chance we might see this one at chevrons.. next month.

Later Mk 2 XM's got Teves Mk 20 ABS to replace the 1996 Teves Mk 4 ABS.
Yet another different ECU wiring connector.
For both these Teves systems the Citroen Workshop Manual states that XM and Xantia ABS ECU's must not be interchanged due to different internal programming.
Be interested in a report on what information you get with the Lexia.
The Mk2 30 pin connector and leads has given me lots of Lexia reading problems on Mk2's.
Getting to the stage where I am going to have to rewire one car due to loose pins.

Its hardly suprising citroen rarely made a profit with so many differences between models that share the same looking parts
