Oh right, that's interesting. Then I'm in your shoes too.... I have two of the old link style mounts, one is totally shot and this one on the car at the moment is going. Chris did suggest to fill the cracks with a sealant and bond it all back together.
Not sure... I suppose with these mounts, we could be heading towards bespoke remoulding....

I would have thought soft is better, assuming it's not actually splitting.

Been out for the afternoon and took the XM, not really that impressed with the new mount, yess its taken the slop out of the drive chain but firstly there is a strong vibration when taking left bends on a neutral throttle and the engine note is very audible in the cabin, the mount is very hard and by the drive home it was improving slightly with less vibration but much worse than it was with the old split mount, I guess it is what it is and the mount may settle down with time, I remember this when I changed the engine mounts on my Saab many years ago for aftermarket jobbies, very high levels of noise and vibration were transmitted to the cabin with the concrete hard replacements for the first few months.
I do have a very good OE rear engine mount in the pile of bits if this one doesn't improve but I will have to pull the driveshaft to swap it as I'm not going to press it out of the housing its already in.
We shall see.

That's a bit disappointing. Hopefully it does settle down.
The mount I replaced has worked a treat. Okay it's totally different to the top mount, but I'm delighted with the results. No vibration sound anymore when it changes into forth.

Bit of a pain, luckily I have a new top I modified from non hydractive spec that I've been saving for when my tops reached their end, what to do about the other side though

Bad luck Dean...I'm just waiting for this... Who isn't!
Still it was caught before the bonnet got buckled. I'm very intrigued by the Dutch chap who does proper rubber tops. Jaap had his done on Turby. looked excellent quality and with the mileage and rough roads he used to do, they were well tested and proved good.
Trouble is, how do you go about getting in touch with the guy now...ERGH! Wonder if Liz might be able to help.....

It's just one of those things, the ideal solution would be to track down some nos non Hydractive ones in the UK as they are fairly worthless if you can't drill the fittings and oil ways out and its perfect OE quality.
It's annoying because mine were perfect, even the paint was perfect, I don't like the idea of messy elastomer and folded up shrouding but since the hover car has not been invented yet there is no choice.
I did hear of the other chap and that the results were a perfect OE look but can't find any info on him.

I'm the same as you, I don't like the look of the kingas ones. I'm sure they are great tops, but they don't look right.
The Dutch chap ( Witt? I want to say) is on the Dutch xm forum. I'm wondering if Liz would be kind enough to ask on our behalf.
He doesn't do many though and he is getting on a bit, so it's get them whilst you can.....
I believe Jaap said he charged £70 a top I think. Postage on top too of course.
I'm sort of thinking of getting my spare ones done so I can do an immediate change when the enevitble happens.

Maybe wrong, but I thought the Kingas ones were revised to look like original black finish, and additional (burst-resistant) ring was on the lower side, out-of-sight.
Not sure.
