I haven't got a clue...but the engine is still running excellently day after day. Which perishables do you mean Chris?

I would also do the water pump+ gasket, cam belt, idlers and any odd hoses and belts.

Plus new oil/filter and coolant.

17.5 hrs is for a head gasket job. Swapping an engine is quicker.
I shall have to bow to your superior knowledge on that one Will as I have only ever removed V6 engines, although I thought the 2.1 head gasket job was quite straightforward? Regards, Matthew T.

It's surely harder than any other normal head gasket job Matthew...

Just things like thermostat, belts, hoses... while you have access to them.

It believe it really isn't that easy. I think Andrew Weston also didn't look to enthused about doing them too.

I'll be looking into new hoses on the replacement engine I think, do them whilst it is still out the car. Otherwise everything else has been done. I even have the oil and filter ready to go, as I was going to do it this week, but obviously no point now.

I only got two years use out of it before the disaster occurred last year.

For my four penneth, as you have a known engine and box, I would swap both and then repair the poorly engine whilst out of the car.

Up date on proceedings. Naff all has happened! I'm waiting for garage facilities to become available and then will get cracking in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, quite enjoying the C5. Underrated cars those.
