maybe I do. Know anyone who has one?!!!!,
Forgot to mention, the other engine has had a new manifold gasket too. Very critical that.

I quite understand about you having to depart promptly Russ and that is very good news about the journey home! Of course the repairs will take some time and at least attendance at the Chevron shall not be affected. I necessarily drove my car straight onto the ramps when I returned and I hope to wrestle with the starter motor this weekend! With regards, Matthew T.

No excuse then. It's ready and waiting. I hope it isn't too much of a struggle.

A 2.1td gasket change will set you back about £1300. if you have a good drivetrain ready to go, just chuck it in. You will be done in under a day.
It would have been convenient of the front subframe cross member was bolt on, that way the engine could be carried on a trolley jack.

Easily that much. I can imagine. Off the top of my head, I thought a grand. Campbell was charged a grand for his a few years ago.
Anyway, as you say Will, it's going to be better to fit the other drivetrain. Maybe not that quickly mind!

I did suggest to Russ you might pop over and change the gasket Will and with respect I think swapping the two engines in just one day might be a tad optimistic!! Regards, Matthew T.

I think so too Dieselman, no offence. There's a lot involved there and Russ doesn't have all the necessary tools for that either. Don't think you can leave the AC alone either without degassing it but not sure there.
I know I work slowly but I check and double check everything and that takes time but pays off usually.

I don't fancy doing another head gasket in the car, but Russ's engine doesn't have EGR which helps a lot as you can get to all the exhaust manifold nuts.
As far as the engine swap, with an engine ready to go in it shouldn't take too long.
Drain fluids, front off, battery tray out, driveshafts out, exhaust disconnect, fuel and electrical disconnect, undo the engine mounts and lift out. If possible, I would keep the hydraulics connected, but out of the way.

You make it sound so easy Will.

Now how can I trick you into proving how quick it is to do!!!!
My biggest fear is the aircon system. But if it needs to be regassed and all disconnected so be it. And yes, no EGR to worry about.
