I looked at the photo a bit too quickly . . . Looked to me as if the cone surround had all but vanished! . . . but perhaps not.
Must confess to having repaired a few car speaker cones in the past, substituting some pva/copydex for missing or torn paper. Amazing how long these repairs lasted. Prefer new units nowadays, though, which often outperform the OE.

PS . . . It's worse than you think: My new car speakers have a repaired car fitted to them!

The suspension was completely gone on mine. Gaffer tape is great because it is very soft but has reinforcing fibres.White Exec wrote:I looked at the photo a bit too quickly . . . Looked to me as if the cone surround had all but vanished! . . . but perhaps not.

Re: Citsncycles XM
Both front and rear the cones thmselves were fine but the foam, rubber or whatever around the outside had pretty much vanished - just odd bits siting the botom of th speaker that crumbled to the touch.

Re: Citsncycles XM
The foam surround just disintegrates with age, and turns to dust. Some thin soundproofing and anti-squeak layers can do the same.

Re: Citsncycles XM
Not much to report on the XM front, after a repeat of the return pipe blowing off the pressure regulator I've fitter a new clamp to the pipe which will hopefully hold it. After picking up some parts at Cosford I now have a working boost gauge and a full set of mud flaps:
The Visa's still not ready and Timex the BX filled it's filter housing yesterday (and the MOT runs out tomorrow), so I just hope I get the Visa sorted before I run out of miles on the Xm's insurance policy.
On a different note, my brother sold his VW splitty last week, which signals the end of an era - the frst time he's been without a type 2 since 1991! I'm now busy trying not to fill the space he left (although I do seem to have a strange hankering for a big Citroen estate at the moment)

Re: Citsncycles XM
After months of uneventful motoring, some bastard ran into the back of the XM in front of the house this week:
Didn't stop of course!
Long story short, the rear corner has been pushed forwards about 1/2", and the rail under the boot floor that side has been kinked about 6" behind the sub frame. The distortion to the wing is obvious, and although I've not checked yet I'm assuming there's some damage to the inner aswell.
The intention is to try to fix it. Not worth going through the insurance as it's too high mileage and too far from condition 1 to be worth much, so they'll write it off and I'll see a pittance. The plan is to pick up some body repair tools and try to push it all back into some sort of shape. Luckily the C post seems fine, as does the structure around and in front of the rear subframe, so it drives fine and (in my opinion) can be fixed.
I'll stick a wanted ad up aswell, but I need the lens for the RH lower corner of the tailgate - I hopefully have a spare unit for the rear corner.

Re: Citsncycles XM
Sorry to hear about this Mike. What bad luck. Looks just like the damage my grey XM had, although not as bad. I found when stripping mine, the seams right behind the Rear light cluster in the wing, on the boot floor had all popped open.
I hope you can fix it. Very good idea not to go to the insurance company. Really not worth it for the hassle and to have it written off.
Andrew Weston asked me if I had a spare light, but unfortunately my spare is the for other side. Sorry about that.

That's a sod Mike! Can't believe that people think it's ok to batter someone's car, then drive off. Good luck sorting it.
