Re: Vince's xm - Planned return to the road
I was thinking about something like this: http://www.liqui-moly.de/liquimoly/prod ... _3327.html
By the way, I have another question then. What do you think about flexible bumper paint like this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... 467217_0_0_
My side trims are still OKish but a little bit grey. Turtle Wax black wax makes them look very nice but, of course, doesn't last very long. I certainly don't want to make a mess so if it's questionable, they will stay and get their wax regularly but if using such a paint happens to be a good idea, I might be tempted to give it a go.

I wouldn't paint the plastic trims unless really going to town, otherwise it will peel off eventually.

Not necessarily spraying. I had excellent results on internal trim parts with paint sprayed onto a lint free cloth and stamping the plastic carefully with it. The amount of paint on the surface is very small and can be controlled in very fine steps. There were trim parts on my BX that I painted 10 years earlier and it stayed perfect for a decade or more.

Hi Gabor,
I cant really comment on the paint type stuffs youve listed as ive never used them. I have found though that on anything other than metal components, they cann be brought back to life without the need for painting.
Usually regular applications of a feed type product over a period of a couple of weeks or so will bring back the finish....but on external faded bumpers, if they are far gone, these can be brought back with a heat gun, then fed with said type products....
If using the heat gun approach however, go very carefully.....if you go too far to quick the bumper will melt
To see more, jump onto youtube and see people doing it.....although its not as easy as it looks on the videos

Not that far gone at all, actually, still quite acceptable but the black wax makes it even much better. What kind of feed type material would you recommend?

Re: Vince's xm - Planned return to the road
To be honest there are a wide variety out there and I could do with trying a few more myself just for variety's sake
For a while ive been using the following:
Meguiars Trim restorer - Cream - I use for interiors and restoring faded external trims
AutoGlym Bumper care - Waxy type cream - Good long lasting for exterior trims - Too waxy for interior bits and engine bay parts
Car plan tyre shine (most others don't last) - Aerosol - Good for reaching areas you cant get your hands into - Engine bays for example
Espuma rubber and trim dressing (trade only) - Liquid silicone - It washes off standard trim too easily when it rains, but its amazing on tyres and lasts ages
Meguiars Endurance - Liquid - Bought it a while ago, but haven't really used it much yet

Re: Vince's xm - Planned return to the road
I'll shop around for the Meguiars ones. As to silicone, I usually try to stay clear of them. For internal trim I always liked the paraffin based Turtle Wax Carisma but I haven't seen it for ages (although the net suggests that it's still sold elsewhere; anyway, I spotted a Motip one that seems to be just as good).
Another tempting idea would be Forever Black, claiming to be a permanent dye. The heatgun solution is in fact tempting, too, but I have parking radar sensors in the rear bumper and I'm not sure they'd enjoy the heat. And I glued them in place carefully during installation... [emoji1]

Re: Vince's xm - Planned return to the road
Which one could be the first trim restorer cream you mention? I couldn't find a cream one on the net, only Ultimate Black that seems to be just one of the usual covering products lasting for a couple of weeks...
