I have had a quote for £250 to reseal totally the pump off the car. Which is fine, but it's getting it off the car......
Otherwise they will do the whole lot, but it's near £500.

I think your right Jim, the back part large o ring has gone. Well that's what the specialist said... Without looking at it.
Booked in for next Wednesday.

This is a little more than I was expecting. ;) still... once it's done it's done.

Yes, getting it off the car is a few hours work Russ but should be possible, if the person knows their onions with the 2.1, without disturbing the cambelt as the pump sprocket can remain in-situ.

Although, having said that it is the ideal time to renew the cambelt, tensioner and water pump whilst it is off.

Knowing exactly what's involved £250 is a good price. It is a good days' work to do it properly. Did that include calibration too?

That's interesting Jim, so you don't need to remove the cambelt ect. Is there a guide somewhere showing how to do this?

The belt and pump ect were done two years ago now. Only 3-4K ago!! shows how much I use this car! So they have been checked today and are fine, not soaked in Diesel which is great.

I believe it does include calibration. I'm getting another quote from another specialist company DTM, in Bristol.

Russ, basically what you do is bring the engine to time and you'll find the pump sprocket has two indexing holes which align with M8 tapped holes in the cradle. Screw M8 bolts into each hole and you can then undo the sprocket nut and using a special puller pop the sprocket off the pump drive shaft whilst leaving the belt and sprocket in their rightful places.

The only problem is that the woodruff key has a habit of making a bid for freedom and the keyway is placed, when the sprocket is on time, in the worst possible place - right on the crest of a pump 'compression' point and at the back of the cradle. The pump has four distinct 'compressions' just like a four cylinder engine and keeping it positioned on a crest of a compression is a little challenging.

That aside it does make the job easier and quicker to leave the sprocket in place and therefore cheaper.

Timing is no problem. Draw a witness mark across the pump flange to the cradle and just line up the witness mark on refitting.

Wow, I didn't take that all in Jim..maybe because I am at work, but that knowledge of yours.....

worth it's weight in pure gold :)

(one of the reasons I would not recommend any new Citroen to you)

Very very selfish I know but I still wish you well with your new C1 car and and also as a ex Xantia driver. I see many many rental cars every day here, but no C1's ever. So I hardly know how they look :)

Seriously though, thanks for sharing that knowledge because I think it is very scarce and very valuable, also around the XM enthusiasts scene.
ps if you want to drive a 2cv in Ireland for free ??? :)
pps no no my Diesel pump is bone dry last time I looked...
But I might run into these problems one day and there are no specialists in Ireland that I know of. Liz would seriously 'harass' me to find one if needed.

We are driving too much in Xm's you see!! :)

Hope you get it all sorted soon Russ, at least there are specialists around in the UK.

Remember any 'stupid' repair I hear about on ANY car in Irelaned , costs a fortune as well so keep positive. I would be delighted to get a problem like yours fixed around here for that kind of money.

Back to work...

Good luck with the MoT Russ. I'm taking the FireStorm for its annual this afternoon. I'm confident we'll both have a fresh ticket. :-)

I have one Mark, two weeks ago!!! Best of luck with yours. It'll be fine.
Mine has not been used since due to the leaky fuel pump and then I still have to sort out the steering coupling. Still waiting on the part.

Cheers Jaap!!
