It chucked it down this morning, so I thought great at least I can tell where and how it is getting in. Nope...bone dry. Not a droplet. So I investigated the bracket area a bit further...the bit that sticks out for the door handle, and taped up any holes. It's the only place where the plastic liner has been cut to allow for the bracket. So it must be this at fault allowing water into the car.
Anyway, it's all back together, so only time will tell if any water gains entry again. Best thing for me though, is the door release trim is fitting back properly.

Hi Russ,

That door release trim foxed me to start with. Didn't realize just how much leverage with a flat blade was necessary to unseat it from its four clips. (I take it you are unclipping this bit of trim first, while the door card is still attached to the door? Your third photo shows it still in place on the card.) It's so firmly clipped, I thought it must be held in place with a screw or two, until I worked it out!

Amazing just how straightforward it is getting into a door, once you've been forced into doing it a few times!

Hi Chris,

The door card came off really easily. I was careful with the dreaded tabs. The trim I did take off first , along with the speaker and stopper.
The trim wasn't locating properly on the upper edge. So whilst it was all off, I found the issue. The leather was poorly trimmed and was stopping the trim from lying flat. It was simply pushing it out. So I cut it and pulled the leather round the back and secured it with extra staples. The trim now sits as it should. The photo shows it 'dry' fitted just to see how flat it was now lying.
Back in the car it is much better and isn't half hanging off. Very pleased with this little fix. :)

You're right about the leather covering - it seems to get caught up and unhelpful in all sorts of places, preventing things from sitting properly. Every one of the window-operating switch rockers (in the armrests) was fouling on the surrounding leather trim, which meant that if you operated a switch, there was a good likelihood of the switch getting 'held down' by the trim . . . not good for anything! Sorted with the judicious use of a scalpel blade (essential graphics tool, once upon a time).

Good luck with your Damp Patch.

The curious drip appearing from behind the door card has been stopped. Another leak ticked off the list!
