6000K is very, very blue. 4300K a much better choice. (Colour temp. of a tungsten halogen lamp is 3200K, just for reference.)

As for the handbrake problem, no didn't take the wheels of yet cause I've done enough today but:
I did have a look and found that I can pull out the cable on the brake calliper at the drivers side so I assume it is broken or if possible come loose on the other side... The outer cable is not damaged.
I just hope I don't have to take out the cable mechanism underneath the car, maybe tomorrow I'll crawl underneath.

Hopefully the parking brake cable arrangement is the same as a Xantia. if that's the case then the job of cable replacement looks absolutely terrible but actually is simplicity itself...

3000K is a nice "warm white", and really close to original appearance. Should look good!

I've done it on a Xantia Jim, wedging the exhaust away and fiddling the new cable in...On the XM I took apart, I found dismantling the cable from the mechanism through the bulkhead a night mare cause of the difficulty of accessing nuts and bolts.CitroJim wrote:Hopefully the parking brake cable arrangement is the same as a Xantia. if that's the case then the job of cable replacement looks absolutely terrible but actually is simplicity itself...

I've decided next weekend will be soon enough

There's boringly bad cars about but with perfect hand brakes!

Yours is an Auto, iirc, so other than MOT time, you don't need a parking brake.

Re: These, are the voyages of the starship Turby D.
Today I am not happy with Turby. Not happy at all.
Once again this week, the speedometer stopped working. So this time I replaced the clock after resetting the mileage. Didn't help. So I changed the yoke on the autobox...didn't help. So I there's not much more to change....is there. I already tried re adjusting the plug 3 times and that did help but now for some reason..typical XM.
On the good side: I put the hand brake cables back on the yoke underneath. They're in perfect health and hardly any improvement possible with adjusting them at the front calipers. At least that is working again but cannot for the world understand how and why this happened.
Anyway, before I started any of this, the engine stalled numerous times
Just after starting and without shifting gear stick. It is an electrical issue because when it happens the fuel meter drops down immediately and the ordinary warning lights won't come on. I have checked and tightened the wiring on the starter motor and cleaned the battery terminals. I have tried with the engine running, juttering the ignition key but that won't stall the engine. I am still thinking of the ignition lock ...could that be getting iffy. Or can the new starter motor cause this...I even tried to ring the previous owner to use his brains on this..

I have awful reception Jaap, so didn't get any note of your call. I have no idea whats wrong with it. It might be worth checking the wire going to the stop solenoid on the fuel pump. It could be the ignition switch. I remember changing that for you so you could have working door locks all on one key.
