Hi Jim, good to see you back.

The pipe is fine. In fact it is the one I replaced not long ago. For some reason it moved and leaked quite quickly. The clip is still useable, just cannot get it back on. A real fiddle. It's all fixed now. I used jubilee clips...If the MOT guy is unhappy, I'll give him the clip to put back on.

The impending doom is going to get unbearable by Monday!!!

Non sense: the MOT guy must a. check for leakage : it doesnt' leak b. if things are properly fastened. I don't see how he could give out about a jublilee clip as a fastener - they're originally used all over the car. It's only a return pipe, there's no pressure so I'd make a hell of a fuss if he'd started complaining about originality :)

I do understand how you feel though, been there done that. My 2cv failed once (12 years ago...on a king pin in the Netherlands...Now they are supposed to have some movement in them, otherwise you cannot use the bloody steering wheel. But the MOT man hadn't a clue.
I did NOT agree with the failure and had to wait 2 hours for an official guy from the government....to give the final verdict. I won, of course. That king pin is still on the 2cv by the way:) and is still legal.
Anyway, I am sure there are very many people willing to give you a hand with sorting problems.
My Diesel did +1000 KM last week, only getting better :) Except the tyres...

  glad you think that Jaap. You're quite right...It does seem fine now.

Wow..you really are enjoying the diesel. They will eat through front tyres..heavy derv lump!
But don't all Citroens suffer from that? :? Not sure about that...

The diesel is flawless so far. Should be!!

Tyres, apparently so. The 2 liter petrol has had a few pair of front tyres but the Bridgestones (I was told they were better and more expensive) did not last as long as the Firestones. I now have new Michelins energy savers that don't save energy being wider (205 versus 195) and will put them on the rear at some point (they don't wear so much - no engine in the boot :) ) So far so good mind you, the petrol XM does about 500 miles a week as well....also flawless up to now, touch wood. I know, we need good transportation that's why I'm on here! :)

I know what you mean Russ as I'm exactly the same at MOT time despite me knowing usually that the car is OK..

But, and I know this is a bit of pot and kettle, you have nothing to worry about. Yours is a well-maintained and cherished car and the tester knows it. It makes a difference.

Give it a good pre-MOT and go to the test with confidence. You're lucky in that you don't have a petrol. I can pre-MOT and virtually guarantee a pass in everything but the emissions which I can't test. No such worries with a diesel. As long as it doesn't smoke too badly then job's a good 'un..

Another good point Jim. And mine doesn't smoke... :P

I'm afraid I'm a massive pessimistic when it comes to Mot time!! Can't help it.
But I have tested all the lights...they work. Good start!
Windscreen washers....tick..had a dickens of a time getting them adjusted mind you. Kept over shooting the car!!!
And I know there's loads more to an MOT, but that's for the weekend.

If anything is going to fail and not going to be a surprise it would be either tyres or bushes.

I'm sure it will be fine. He says. ;)
