S2 Estate today on M3 westbound
Spotted this morning about 9.30 heading west on the M3 just before Fleet services, reg no P51 SPP which appears to be a 2.0 petrol. I was in my ZX doing a fair whack and it overtook me fairly rapidly. In case from the picture it looks like I'm straddling the white line, I was in the process of pulling aside to let it pass. Originally thought it was another ZX in the distance in my rear view mirror then as soon as I realised it was an XM preparation was made for a photo to be taken of it as it passed (see what I did there with my non incriminating choice of words there

So were you in a LHD ZX with your passenger hanging out of the window to take the picture the then?
Were you moving back into lane 3 when the pic was taken?
If you were you have forgotten the 3 second rule as you seem very close or does your HTC Desire have a zoom?

If I was going to be pedantic I'd point out it's the 2 second rule...XMas wrote:If you were you have forgotten the 3 second rule as you seem very close or does your HTC Desire have a zoom?

For those who can read the font size of that the above reply, who also may have faster reflexes, perhaps 2 seconds is enough (except in the bedroom)Duke wrote:If I was going to be pedantic I'd point out it's the 2 second rule...XMas wrote:If you were you have forgotten the 3 second rule as you seem very close or does your HTC Desire have a zoom?
I might have forgotten/ mis quoted the road safety campaign from the distant past, but one should always err on the side of caution, keep your distance and remember the national speed limit is not a guide of the speed to travel but the maximum speed that you should not exceed.
It should be noted that the faster you go, the greater the distance you should keep back from the cars ahead, ergo more seconds = greater distance = safer driving
1m distance per mph is the rule of thumb, but at higher speeds and in poor conditions you should decrease your speed and increase the distance its not one or the other!
OK so you could argue that thinking time can be delayed/longer as braking distances have shortened with new technology but judging by the amount of rear-enders and spin outs I have witnessed on the motorway, I think no one can do the math.

No I was actually moving from lane 3 to lane to to allow the XM to pass, as I said he was coming at some speed. It was he that passed quite close to my car as I was moving into lane 2.
And I never said I took the picture.
