4.5mm pipe tool

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

There are a few at that price range on e-bay. It would just be a bit fiddly to use that on a pipe on a car.

That tool is for standard brake pipe sizes and flares, try adding the cost of the Citroen dies and it becomes about £330.

With reference to the ebay item identified above by Kit.
The tool shown is similar to the one I have ordered with 3.5 & 4.5mm dies instead of the standard ones.
I went direct to the manufacturer and obtained a substantial discount.
Automec Oakes Tools - 01280 822 818
dsmith@automec.co.uk

While I will mainly use the tool for off car pipe manufacture I also intend to try to modify it for occasional on car use.
The critical factors that made me pay out for this particular tool were:-
Expected high volume useage - 5 or 6 rear subframes to refit with CuNic.
Angled clamps to maximise pipe clamp and grip.
Screw pressure rather than impact to form flare.
Pliades could not supply the 4.5mm tool that I have been requesting for well over a year.

I expect this tool to produce consistent, high quality flares with virtually no failures.
Failures, even occasional ones are a real pain particularly if it is the second one on a pipe already cut to length.
Screw pressure tools can be more compact and are also more likely to be useable on car in a confined space.
Had the Pliades tools not been out of production I would have bought and not looked elsewhere.

Tool delivered today.
Version is the mid range model. 3.5 & 4.5mm dies.
Bit heavier constructed than those in the ebay pictures.
Came packed in a plastic tool box with a sheet of instructions.
Sample flared pipes included made with the actual dies supplied.
Cost was £137.39 delivered.
Will put up a bit more information once I have tried the tool out.

Gentlemen.
As our 'Green Blooded' vehicles are getting older and as the hydraulic pipes are corroding/failing , (therefore needing replacing and due to O/E NLA or cost) this very subject has been discussed on a another forum recently, so from time to time you guys should look on it occasionally (as there is some useful posts + useful links to other forums too ! ) ;)

So if you don't mind opening up the link, all will be REVEALED !

I was very tempted to order one of those myself, but with all the relevant dies it does cost quite a lot.
Can Automec supply the 3.5mm and 4.5mm pipe?

As an aside I am waiting for a pipe flare tool to be delivered to me from Cz. it is the impact type of tool, but can do all three sizes and steel pipe, although I can't see how it could be used on the car.

Hi XMX

The tool supplied is exactly the same as the one in the video.
You can even see the plastic storage box on the right of the picture.
Not impressed with the way their vice is fixed down.

My tool arrived today and is very well made. Not as easy to use as the one John has ordered, but smaller and has all three sizes.

Just need some pipes to do now. I'm making a sphere pressure tester so might try it on that.
