Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

I was the buyer of that ebay XM...

..the 2.5 TD VSX Estate.

I really fancied one of these especially since the 2.5 TD is a perfect candidate for running on veg oil. I was outbid by a tenner but the winning bidder re-listed it a couple of days later saying he had bought it for the engine to fit in a van but it was the wrong type. Normally I'd walk away but I did get a bit attached to it 1st time round! I agreed on a price & drove it home today.

Despite being listed as having no hydraulic leaks the ride was a bit bouncy in both sport & normal mode. I should have checked the LHM level before driving it but I didn't & it appears to be bone dry! (can't see any in the reservoir) Too late to get some LHM fluid, will get some tomorrow & hope no damage has been done. Hopefully it just needs some new fluid and the ride will be restored.

The other thing is, it only came with one key, no remote plipper, I wasn't bothered until I got home & found that the key doesn't open or lock the doors on either side! So I have no way of locking the car!

Its probably too much hassle trying to source a second hand door lock & key, just wondering if there is any way I can get a replacement remote fob that will open & lock the car? Do I need to find some security number somewhere? This model uses the remote keypad which is working fine, I just need to have some way of opening & locking the car. Central locking works fine but obviously I don't want to lock myself out of the car as the key doesn't work in the lock.

Any advice?

Good for you on buying the car, other than the welding it looked pretty nice.

I can't believe the reservoir is dry of LHM as otherwise the car wouldn't rise at all, the brakes wouldn't work, the pump would be running constantly and the STOP light would be on.
Raise the car to maximum height and look at the orange mushroom marker on the LHM tank. It should be between the red rings.

There are a number of XM being broken and lock sets available. You should be able to remove the drivers door lock and maybe re-gig the tumblers to make it work.

EDIT:

Forgot to say. The bouncy ride will be either the suspension system stuck in sport mode or worn out spheres. If you are intending to keep the car a new set of spheres never goes amiss.

Definitely looks a nice car so I'm sure you've done well there. Not many have cream leather and s1 24v v6 alloys.
There are a few cars being broken on the forum so you'll be straightened out shortly I've no doubt. If all else fails,
you can pay the silly ransom price Wolsely House Motors want for their set here on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-XM-MK2-LO ... 2a0367d14b

rude price for secondhand parts really but would get you sorted.

For LHM try GSF as they sell Total at a modest amount more than the usually cheaper alternative Morris and
expect to pay around £4.50 a litre. Don't even consider going to Halfords as they'll want 12 quid a litre!!

Didn't someone say that Citroen dealers are only about £2.50 for a litre of LHM.

I spoke to Millers oils and was informed their LHM is genuine Total and they thought that all LHM probably was as it's not worth a small manufacturer bothering to make the low quantities sold., so they just re-brand the Total stuff.

That may well be the case but I'd suggest Morris' and Total are chalk and cheese.
The Total is thick and luminesent green whereas the Morris' seems far thinner and
watery in viscocity and weaker in saturation colour; maybe thinned Total then?

If you want a replacement fob for locking, then you are looking at about 150 quid from citroen,
Or about £30 on ebay for an aftermarket one (or two in fact!)

Didn't he even keep the strut tops? I remembered you had told him you wanted them.
