hello everyone
have just purchased my second XM - an M-reg 2.1TD manual car with 107,000 miles on the clock. Lovely condition with no rust as far as I can see, either on top or down below.
It's quite a basic spec - which I like as it means less to go wrong, and it is super smooth!
I have a few jobs to do:
Change spheres - it is a tad bouncy
change coolant - I do worry about HGF
change two tyres - the spare is illegal and the front nearside borderline 2mm
The exhaust is nearly new, with the labels still attached, all the electrics work (I know, amazing, isn't it!) and it drives beautifully. I'm well chuffed.
Anyway, you can guess from my name what else I own! I have a Berkeley B95, a Bond Minicar, an NSU Prinz, three Honda Z600 coupes and a Mochet Camionette too. My everyday car is a smart roadster, but the XM is to help retire it to weekends and holidays.
I'm not new to Citroens, having owned umpteen BXs, a maroon XM 2.0 (I scrapped it about eight years ago ...), a CX, GS, 2CV (with an Ami8 engine) and my parents were confirmed Citroenists - owning multiple DSs, including safaris and familiales, numerous CXs, BXs, GS, Visa (I learned to drive on it), and three XMs too.

Re: new member
Hi, Looks a lovely XM. I have 2 2.5TDs at present, one of which recently dropped a valve. Previously I owned a metallic blue 2.1TD (which was very reliable) and a 1990 3.0l 24v model which was not so reliable). However, the reason for my reply is that our histories are so similar. I have owned all manner of Citroens includind some 25+ 2CVs Dyannes, Amis etc., 6 GSs of various years and marks (great underated cars), 3 DSs including DS20,23 semi-auto,19 Familliale, as well an H-Van and being heavilly involved with 2 CXs. My father, also was a totally crazy Citroenophile. Just to let you know there are other insane people out there!

one of my friends at work had a CX prestige, but still has an SM and a DS Decopotable (not a real one).
I wasn't looking for an XM, this one found me ...
I was actually after a BX estate but the XM was soooooo cheap.
Here's some gratuitous piccies

Hello! (Phil C here from BXC) I hope you enjoy your new acquisition; I'm on my first XM (after a brief association with Harryjoe's XM) and I'm still exploring...

Hi Phil - I knew you were here too - both your XMs are gorgeous. I wanted a diseasel though for the fuel economy (and simplicity - lol).Citroenesque wrote:Hello! Now, how do I sneak a BX home without my wife noticing?

You could always say you are 'looking after it for a friend while he gets a few things in his life sorted*'. (*These things take time!)...messerschmitt owner wrote:Now, how do I sneak a BX home without my wife noticing?

That's the wee beastie - owned it since 1987 and it is very original - it is trapped in the garage with three Honda Z600s in the carport between it and the road.
I paid £200 for it, complete with a spare engine, some body panels, a complete set of workshop tools and all the manuals plus some other spares. Weirdly, I could remember playing inside the one the spare engine came from when I was in a local scrapyard in the early 1970s.

That's a lovely car and worth a lot more than £200 now. When I was a child I remember seeing Isseta's parked at the side of the road from the top deck of the bus...
