The end of P820 UNM (Turbo 2CT)

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

In discussions we now have come to an agreed value of £2500. This will be reduced by 20 or 28% depending on classification of damage as we want to 'buy back' the car. It will then be available for parts. I am away for work abroad till 22 May, but after happy for people to ask for parts.

The invoice for repair did in fact contain an estimate for parts.

20%, or 28% are high buy back values, it might be worth seeing if they will reduce those as they incur no costs for removal and so far, none for hire car, or storage.

I guess it will be written off as Cat S, so can be repaired if wanted, but will always carry that marker. Cat N doesn't carry a marker, but is non structural damage only.

Significant damage is a genuine reason to break an Xm down, just make sure the parts live to fight another day in many other ones.
What condition is the left rear wing in, no rust, or dents?

This week we have heard that, though they never came to see the car, it is a category B and should never be on the road again. The good news is that we have decided to buy a bordeaux red estate N353 WKN. It is less luxurious then our P820 UNM, but a reasonable alternative. We hope that next month L912 BLJ will be operational again too!

The implication is that P820 UNM is open as a supply for parts. It was a good car before the crash, just passed the MOT and the advisories you see on the MOT report were all addressed. So, if you need/want something, contact me and we can discuss.

At least as Cat-B it's fate is sealed, you need have no recriminations about breaking it for parts...the more the merrier.

The ideal situation is to end up with a bucket of sweepings to tip into the bin.

Yes, I agree Dieselman, but what slightly annoys me is that a garage considered it salvable, although at substantial cost, while the insurance, without even coming to look (the garage actually came to our house to have a look at the car) considered it a B. I always hoped that perhaps someone here might be able to save it, even if (s)he bought it from me for just £250, as I liked at least the chance to see it back on the road.... even if not by me.

But alas, it was not to be. But if someone can use parts, yes good indeed.

On that note, I wonder if my bottom door red light when opening the door can be put in my 'new' car as that does not have this, without needing wiring. Also I hope it is possible to have the buttons in the central console for electric windows for the back transferred to teh other car, and the single push closing of the windows on the driver side. And, but I guess that is harder, the wiper control had more options in my P820 UNM than the N353 WKN, as the board computer that had more options. If it is not exchangeable, I will not try, but if it is possible I would like to transfer it to the other car, as well as my electric seats.

I'm not sure how the bodyshop gave a quote, especially including parts, which aren't readily available.
The assessor that viewed my car said "Everything is fixable if you throw enough at it", but the reality is no insurance company is going to become involved in a drawn out repair where parts may never be available.

Regarding upgrading your new car from SX to VSX spec, of course it can be done, you have a complete car to pull spare parts from.

Drivers "one-shot" window will either be a control unit inside the door card, or the window winder motor itself, depending on model year.
Puddle lamps, depends on the wiring in the door loom, but yes it's possible.
Rear electric windows, will need the window winders, door loom and switches, centre console wiring and switches.
Electric seats will need the seats and loom.
Wiper delay is just the wiper stalk, iirc, but may need some wiring. I think the actual timer relay is the same.

All the above will be very easy if the wiring is actually there, but the worst case is to remove it from the scrap car.

The only item that would be more awkward would be swapping the heater box for the VSX one, if they are different, as that is a dash and pedal box out job.

Hi, I'm a very new XM owner, and I found this thread a bit shocking. Sorry to hear about the damage, and the resulting end of the road for the car.

What's made me pay the most attention is, while starting restoration if my XM, it really seems imperative to have an understanding of the insurance services available for that vehicle, perhaps using a broker of repute. I was going to just Go Compare mine, but your story here has really made me think. Mines currently just on a mid-policy admin-fee plate switch, but in a way I'm glad it's currently not on the road.

I could do with, the information displays on both sides of the steering wheel, also a sunroof if it is working
