The end of P820 UNM (Turbo 2CT)

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi Dieselman,
yes, I could not do that; get it crushed. My wife always says 'It is his second marriage' quite well describing how I feel about the cars, and it hurts to see them gone. I can afford up to £4000 to get it repaired and would be happy to spend it on it, even if the value of the car may be far less. I just want to keep them rolling. I was also advised thinking hard about abandoning the white one (L912 BLJ) and I agree that economically it is probably madness that I decided to get it repaired, but I could afford it and it is in the process coming back again ;-). But this second disaster is more than I can bear (financially). So yes, if no miracle maker turns up I have to get it available to forum members for parts. I have seen that car and am contemplating buying it, or the red estate that Savoy has for sale. I drive that one on loan from Savoy (he is a kind man) at the moment and it drives well! Thanks for your concern and comments Dieselman.

The right rear corner has taken quite a thump, you can see how it's pushed the C pillar up into the roof.
Given the mileage and that Series 2 aren't especially rare, it's probably not worth fixing, unless one has access to parts and a jig to pull that back into shape.
Having a car jigged isn't particularly expensive.

Shame you missed the red Series 2 VSX that was available a few months ago. It needed paint, but appeared a lovely car.

Sorry to see this, it looks like it was a decent car.

If you have access to Facebook there are several for sale, including this 2.5 TD Exclusive. It previously belonged to a friend of mine and was recomissioned a few months ago.

There is also a 2000 VSX CT auto with 144k miles and full MOT on offer for £1250 in Walsall.

If you take the unhappy decision to break it for parts, I would be interested in the front nearside (passenger) door.

Thanks Citjon, I will keep these in my options also; the one on the picture looks nice. I had not seen these.
Indeed, my car was in a good shape, passing the MOT without problems, and advisories all sorted before the crash. The corrosion on the rear wheel arch was on the list to be dealt with in the near future. Out of curiosity: was it you who had recently a CX prestige on Ebay? Nice car, and I hope you sold it well. So sorry to read that there were timewasters before.....

Unfortunately it wasn't me selling the CX, if I had one I would probably want to keep it!

Regarding the insurance I have heard people say that if it wasn't your fault or policy you can insist on it being repaired. I don't know if this is the case for you but could be worth looking into.

Best regards,
Jon

I think that in this case an insurance company can wriggle out of repair on the basis of structural damage, or unavailability of approved parts.

^ Parts availability is the issue for an Xm.
I suspect the estimate that has been provided only covered labour and paint, not any parts.

If one obtained all the required parts they could then ask the insurer for a contract repair, but in reality the cost is in excess of the replacement value.
