She's looking good, and well cared for.

One more voltage check you could do: connect voltmeter between GP rail and batt+ terminal, and switch on the IGN (so GPs operate). Voltage drop between these two points shouldn't be more than about 1-1.5v.

If cranking speed is slow, starting will be more difficult. The main battery connectors (if original) can be a cause. Voltage will be there, but if corroded internally they will have difficulty in passing the full cranking current. Best just replaced.

Do post a photo of the engine bay.
Whereabouts in France are you, btw?

Plug the Lexia lead into the 30 pin socket under the steering wheel.

The return flashing glowplug lamp is an error indicator. If it comes on 30 seconds after initially extinguishing, then it should be warning of a failed glow-plug.

Sorry, forgot about the location of the diagnostic socket - just above driver's feet (behind a small pull-down flap) on RHD cars, so presumably in passenger's footwell on LHD.

Finally found the page I was looking for in Citroen manual . . .
(XM 146-00/9, p.20)
.
2.5 pre- and post-heating p.jpg
On later cars, there was a single cable from the output of the GP relay to the GP rail, not two feeds as shown here.

It's possible that the fault which the Inj.ECU has logged just needs to be erased (by Lexia), and that will sort the light.

Hello Dear,

XM is staring corrctly now. I add 4 mm² to GP and GPR + 80ah battery.
Starting very weel now:)

I changed brake pad also but I think something goes wrong because hand brake light is not working now ^^.
This car is making me crazy.

For the new, I know some people won't be agree with that but I chiped it. Better with more couple :)

PS: Living Close to Paris

The parking brake cable switch is mounted above the pedal. Changing the pads shouldn't affect that, unless you mean the pedal isn't returning, switching the warning off. If so, check the cable are tight enough. The cables should have a little slack, but not too much, otherwise the nipple will jump out of the lever.
Normally you don't need to adjust the cables when changing the pads, just unclip them using some grips to rotate the lever.
Ensure you wind the pistions back into the callipers before installing new pads, otherwise the parking brake automatic adjuster won't set.

Glad you got the starting sorted, John.
Ours is chipped, too, since 1999. Whose chips (or device) did you use?

With clean-air zones, are you able to take the 2.5 into Paris?

Thanks All for help. I use one chip from Powerchip.cz. This one is not smoky. Willsee the tests later.

I go in Paris with ....even if im not authorized. This law is not fair .... example A new 4x4 V8 can go in Paris...
Once my XM will have 30 years old... I will be able to go in Paris without breaking law due to collection car status. Collection car can go into paris.

Have you got same restriction in UK?

UK doing the same, with London first.
So far as I understand, Historic vehicles (those already exempt from annual road tax) are also exempt from ULEZ (ultra low emissions zone) daily charges. This means cars 40 years old or more, so currently pre-1980.
So, a while to go yet! :(

It cost me £10 or so to get a clean air sticker for the C6 which covers all the restrictive areas.
