Trip to Devon
Well 1200 miles later we have returned to Norfolk and The Brie performed very well, including going up Porlock hill 1:4 fully laden 4 adults and 4 sets of luggage cant say progress was rapid but she made it (See attached photo of her at top of said hill)... Comfort was excellent if progress was stately... Her new name Captain Marvel i.e. "Brie Larson"... Both are very attractive although not sure Brie Larson chucks out black smoke under duress or has a slight smell of engine oil when she is hot though
A couple of questions the sphere drivers side gets a light film of oil sprayed on it under duress (see pic) any ideas anyone?
This thingymajig got its vacuum pipe busted off, what is it ? and can i get one easily? see pic You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Check it is LHM, not diesel (a wipe with bit of white tissue will tell you).
If LHM, spray looks pretty well spread.
Try drying it all off, and see where it emerges.
Could be the sphere thread sealing washer, although these are not known to leak.
Check also the strut-top nut (you can lift off its hex plastic cover to see it properly), as there is hydraulic pressure below it between two O-rings.
Check also the hydraulic pipe union connecting to the strut-top, again not known to leak.
Possible a cracked pipe somewhere - would be a high-pressure (metal) one, as all return pipes are low pressure, and would drip, not spray.
A few other hydraulic pipes in that area too.

Re: Trip to Devon
It looks like black oil spray to me, so engine oil. The spray is due to the upper manifold not being tightly bolted down to the upper to lower rubber grommets. You can also see the same spray on the vacuum pipe picture showing the EGR valve solenoid.
The broken vacuum pipe should feed that solenoid. This si probably why you suffered an error code and are showing black smoke under full boost. Some of the boost is leaking away.

I did wonder if it was coming from the manifold somewhere, it is engine oil so will have a look at tightening it down... can i purchase new grommet seals if need be?Dieselman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 1:21 pmIt looks like black oil spray to me, so engine oil. Can i purchase the broken solenoid ? or will it need fixing ?

Re: Trip to Devon
The manifold probably just wants tightening a bit, those seals don't normally leak. Don't over tighten the bolts, tehy only screw into the aluminium lower manifold.
The vacuum pipe stub needs fixing or replacing.

Re: Trip to Devon
It's called an air hose... P/n 1628 7Y.
Best to look for a used one, or perform a repair, as it's obsolete.
