I did but then the manual ECU worked better with it the other way round and so far as i know there was only the one change to ECU pinouts with MK2 production in 1994, i will leave it as it is now, although it was wired incorrectly (how the wiring diagram shows when i got it).

Some photo's of the afternoons fun are below, the front header was on backwards and i did not remove it from the manifold as the bolts looked solid and siezed, glad i took it off to turn it round the right way this afternoon, it was a pig of a job to drill out and tap in situe but at least i can remove it easily now if required and the header being the right way round gives better clearance to stuff.

Blimey how coincidental is that for the magnet to fail..

I beleve 2.0i starters are the same motor but different pinion house..

I know, very odd.

The 2.0 starter has a different gearbox, stator and pinion. The motor case, brush holder and solenoid are the same.

I can find 2.5 ones but also might have a V6 one.
Will check next time I visit.

I would take a knackered one, the important bit is the gearbox end and the stator, the rest is dirt cheap to get new and are common parts used across many cars.
I tried to press the shaft out of the stator as it looked press fit but it's not, it is part of the stator.

Thanks John

When you put up pictures of your failed starter, I was expecting pictures of a starter motor...What's that, a windscreen washer pump motor?

Cheeky buggers, its not the size of your starter motor it's more if it can do the job! lol

I took her out for a run today and i can report power is up across the board with no hesitation, idle is very smooth as well but a little on the low side, not sure why that is.
It did cut out during a full throttle run, felt like the throttle cable snapped but then a couple of seconds later it just came back so i may not be out of the woods yet but we shall have to get some more miles done and attack this next problem if it returns.

I fairly happy with it though, so much so i am booking it in for its engineers report next week at the local Citroen dealer, i got a good deal on it, i think they just wanted to drive it

Yes, this one is ok though and they like the XM, it's only going in for what is in effect another M.O.T and they aren't charging me anything really, they M.O.T it every year for me and always have at a significantly discounted rate and they let me off with some really major stuff this year (cracked exhaust, split rack gaiter) knowing i was just taking it home to pull the engine out so they have been good to me.
I need an engineers report to change the logbook from a Prestige 2.0i to a Prestige 3.0i......................the only one!

I can confirm it cut power on full throttle application, the gearbox changes down, it squats and flies off like a scalded cat and then the engine just loses all power and returns to idle with my foot to the floor, ease off the throttle completely and re-apply and it drives fine, until the next WOT event while moving, if you floor it from stationary it won't happen, drives great though, this problem shouldn't be too hard to find, no EML light or code but it's a fairly significant issue.
