I will explain the other bits later but I have been out driving around today, and broke down.

I stopped at a junction and the engine just decided to turn off, just like that, it was running great and just turned off. tried to restart and there was nothing there, it cranked but didnt even try and fire.
Pulled the Lexia out of the boot rather than pointlessly wiggle stuff and read the codes off, the old permanent fault of speed sensor was there but below is what the second fault was,

Intermittant fault
!!!!!!!!!!!!!Contrôleur d'injecteur!!!!!!!!!!! SO/GO/EM/MB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that was the fault, now why on earth is my ecu speaking french?, and the exclamation marks are a bit dramatic dont you think?
I cleared the codes and just the usual speed sensor one remained, and just started the car, no drama, no missing, just fired up, put the ecu box back together, closed the bonnet and drove home.

I'm beginning to wonder about this ECU.

The ECU's count intemittent faults and multiples of faults.
They are programmed with a set of risk rules.
So the same fault appearing too often can eventually count up to be treated as a serious fault.
In the opposite way long periods with no faults and the fault risk starts counting back down.
I suspect that you did not clear the fault with the Lexia, what you did was reset the fault table to zero so it could start counting again.

On a 2.5 ECU the risk rules count up to 40.
So 39 intemittent faults and the ECU just records the faults, 40 and it selects limp mode for protection.

This didn't go into limp John, the engine just cuts out and would not restart, it runs great.
The ECU was reset with the lexia a few times over the last month and each time only a few faults were present, I cannot clear the speed sensor fault.
And that doesn't explain why my ECU decided to speak french and reported what amounts to ECU failure with exclamation marks everywhere.
It's interesting it would not start until I cleared this intermittent fault as well.

Fan wise they do work if i connect another brown temp sensor and warm it up but ive not had them running in anger yet, the engine gets to 95 and sort of hovers there so the cooling system is good, think i just need a new temp sensor.

The mayo is gone!!! woooooo, yipeee!

Vibration still present so you were right Misha! but nowhere near as bad as it was, i have a plan for this.

ECU?
Since it reported an intermittent fault,it could be a few things.
-Wiring/connection at ecu(the main big one)ecu contacts and it's connector could be corroded
-Fuse(less likely)
-Main fuel Injection Relay (more likely)
-fuel pump relay(more likely)
-ecu ground or power
Last 3 would point to a fuel pump relay or main fuel injection relay.

Surely the ECU isn't outputting French (or any other language) - just fault codes/signals.
Lexia will be reading these, and displaying them in the chosen language.
Or not?

ECU earth is new and tight
no corrosion on ECU internals, plug or pins
No fuses blew
Fuel pump was running so not injection relay

It just turned off and only started when I had cleared the ECU faults, this could be coincidence as it was the longest drive yet and something could have got hot and decided it has had enough, the time taken to set up the lexia with the bonnet open could of allowed it to cool down and start working again but like I say it's an odd fault, why is it in french? and also it was like flicking a switch, it just stopped and after clearing the fault it started up like nothing had happened.

yes your right actually Chris, the ECU will pulse a number out and the lexia will interpret it, bizarre.

Lexia will presumably hold a battery of different language renderings of each and every fault state/code/message. It may be that that particular one didn't have an English flag, and so used the default message, almost certainly French.

I had a strange problem with my car when all of a sudden, after turning it off will not restart sometimes. That would happen occasionally, about 2-3 times a year without any warning.
Drive it,park it,after that it just cranks no matter what you do.Once it died while driving...just turned off.
I chased this problem for about a year, because it was intermittent and rarely happens, untill i realised that when i simply unplug and plug back a fuel pump relay by ecu box,the car starts like nothing happened before, just that simple move. After that, months can pass by before it happens again.

After opening that relay i found some burnt contacts inside. It was sticking and that was the problem. When you unplug it,it unstick and go back to normal position allowing you to restart a car.

I installed brand new fuel pump relay and problem never re-appeared again.
