Thought I'd say Hi

Hi

I just noticed I hadn't posted in here when I joined.

I'm not much of an XM newbie but am fairly quiet here (more vocal on FCF).

I've got 2 Xantia's (110 HDi and an Activa) and 2 XM's

The first XM I got was from a good friend of mine known here as CitroJim. He had bought it with the intention of bringing her back to life but due to various reasons was unable to do so. I took her on and instantly wondered what the hell I was thinking of.

The car in question is a 1999 V6 Exclusive in blue with LPG fitted. She'd decided to through her toys out of the pram up in a scottish golf club car park. The usual HP20 gearbox failure. Long story short she's back alive and kicking (refurbed gearbox, replacement engine (HG had failed at the same time as the gearbox) and replacement strut tops from Kingas, along with all the usual, new discs and pads and cambelt etc).

The second XM of mine is a 1996 2.5td VSXestate, not so much of a palaver with this one but when purchased it had ruptured rear spheres and a total of 10 bar on the front spheres. All the brakes were worn badly and the car has a tendency to put it's nose down at night (and then take forever to raise in the morning). It's clutch (now on 203k) is well and truly on it's way out, infact a new clutch from Mister Auto is on it's way to me right now. Oh and the radiators were rotten as well.

Over the next 2 weeks I shall be lifting the engine out and changing the clutch. While the engine is out I intend on testing and changing the pump/regulator as required and I'll change the front anti-sink valve.

Looking underneath the car there is almost no rust (other than surface) so the chassis is a sound one, so the work i think is justified and the engine pulls like a train so here's to a nicely fettled XM :)

Good luck on the 2.5 - we did an engine out (for head gasket O-ring replacement) three years ago, and replaced quite a few 'perishables' and suspects. Did clutch while on the job (old one was ok), as well as both radiators. Plenty of bits to label!!! And yes, "like a train".
Good to read your post.

Just a little follow on here.

The 2.5 has now had it's new clutch and when doing that I noticed that the strut tops were well and truly past their best so they were sent off for repair. The acc sphere was also ruptured to that wasn't helping things. The clutch is now lovely and light.

The car will be going up for sale in the next few weeks so, watch out!

That clutch is nice when it's in decent fettle! Good luck with the sale.
