The cost of running on veg oil is minimal, provided you use wvo and filter yourself (i get it free from some places and very cheap elsewhere!).

I havent really had any problems running the xantia on it, i just put a new fuel filter in every month and use an inline, fuel heater!
So with fuel so cheap i thought why not go for the biggest engine possible!
Right im off to top up my gearbox fluid...

Sounds good, i can see why people use it in that case. You cant go wrong with free fuel i guess!

Am I wrong to assume that 'the only way you can go wrong' is by evading taxes :?:

Yes ;) At least as regards law-breaking. In the UK you are permitted to use up to 2000 litres of WVO as a road fuel per year, without declaring it, or paying any tax on it.

Dean, you wrote "saying that i would like a dead hp18 box just to strip down and see what the problem is."

I must be having one of my senior moments, I was sure you did an '18 strip down at the same time that Jim was eviscerating (what a splendid word! I claim that as a first on the forum :D ) the 4HP20?

Please tell me I'm not dreaming.

Sorry you won't be going to MK, I was looking forward to meeting you. I have a minds eye picture of all our regular contributors, those who I class almost as old friends. It's nice to meet them in the flesh so I can finally fill in the blanks.

Hi Derek

Yes i did partialy strip down one of my hp18's but they are good working boxes, so although i could see how it ticked which is good fun i couldnt see what causes them to fail, Jim thinks its lack of oil changes, the filter clogging or poor cooling system condition on the 20 which is fine but the 18 should have regular oil changes which is well known and should be done on a fsh car and the filter is external so i would like a dead one to see what killed it, although i dont know where the time would come from for such an exercise :) .
Hopefully i will see you at next years rally though Derek, as you say it would be nice to put some names to faces and have a look at everyones cars, i hear they have stands full of citroen'y bits too and these events! i think i could spend a lot of money if thats the case :D
