Evening all!

Some of you may know me from French Car Forum and may also know that I don't currently have an XM but a late S1 1.9 TurboD Xantia LX
Im on here to get clued up, maybe ask a few questions to find out what the XM is all about and erm...see where I end up

I guess you would be a diesel man? if so choice is limited, if your brave its a 2.5 if not a 2.1, the only real choice is MK1 or MK2 and we all know whats best

Oh yes, the best are Series 1 and a HALF

Certainly as far as Electro valves go...

Anyway, red_dwarfers, welcome, you will see a few familliar faces here, I think we reside on FCF as well as here..

Great to see you here Kev. I'm sure I can put some Xm wheels under you if you're that keen!!

Over the years I've found with any kind of design that it's very rare that a redesign betters the original
concept/rendition/design unless of course a real fist was made of the original. Not a criticism that
could be levelled at Citroen with the first of the series GS, Bx, 2CV, Cx, Xantia or yes, Xm!

(even VIsa - YES; it was challenging in the grille department but it craved character too!).

OK, there's always an exception that shoots any argument down - yes = the DS!!
The shark nose is every bit as good as the frog eye - goddammit - I love them both!!

I've only recently been hankering after an XM after attending all these CCC rallies!
Yup you're quite right Dean, a 2.1 Bosch Diesel would do me nicely. I love free fuel

Like kev Im after an xm as well (maybe its a natural progression for new enthusiasts Kev?), but i was thinking about the 2.5l diesel, is it possible to do a bosch pump conversion on the 2.5, or is it just vegetable oil incompatable?Ive currently got a 1.9td xantia (veg oil of course) and have previously resided on the FCF site.
Though i have been reading posts on this forum with interest...

I have been looking out for an xm, ideally i'd like vsx or exclusive (doesnt everyone?)

I shall be drooling some more at the CXM rally!

Welcome to the club. I thought that name sounded familier too.

I think the 2.5s already have a Bosch pump, but not as we know it, don't know how it would react to chip fat but personally I wouldn't try as you would have to save a lot of fuel money to pay for a replacement pump. There are still a few XM's about but they are getting rarer by the day, my personal favourit is the 2.1 manual, but each to his own.

Hi Kev

Great to see you here, even better that you are thinking about an XM.
I have recently tried a couple of my 2.5's on Bio, 50% for on tank or two then onto 100%.
Not a major disaster but it does identify poor glow plugs and air in the fuel problems rather well.
I did not change anything just left it all standard. Now sorting out the identified problems which I do not think are Bio related.
Blaming Bio actually gave me a bit of a wild goose chase.
Others of us think Bio is too much of a risk in a 2.5 so there are a few postings.
Some time this month I will collect another 300 litres of Bio and start again.
Still thinking about fuel supply mods, heating and chip fat.
Get to drive a 2.5 before you finally select your XM. IMHO it is a bit different to the 2.1 with much better torque at low revs.
The 2.5 engine only came with a manual box in Mk 2 XM's. There were though a good number made for the UK particularly estates.
These are still turning up regularly now.
