New member, sort of ;)

Post by turbo_imp » Sun Oct 21, 2012 11:55 am

Hi guys,

Well I am sort of a new member, having had two XM's already!

With my wife pregnant with our first child, we have had much deliberation on what family car to get. We were pretty much set on an Audi S4 Avant, but i got cold feet on the running costs, especially with all servicing really needing to be done at a dealer / indy.
Out on a dog walk discussing what to do, my wonderful wife says -

'what about another XM?'

HA! I seem to have corrupted her

It did not take much persuasion, we are now hunting for a very good / pristine example of a saloon XM, colour not important really (although I loved my grey one, see below), either a 16v petrol or 2.1 diesel, velour / cloth interior (can you get velour and heated seats?), high spec (I guess prestige etc), and a nice full service history :)

We are in no hurry as our current cars are all working and have plenty of time before the little one arrives ;)

Here are a couple of pictures of our previous ones -

First one, 8v 2l manual prestige S1.5

Second one, 8v 2l manual prestige S1.5, yeah weird, two the same with a rare options list :D I loved this one, really miss it. It went to a lovely couple from scotland in the end, i hope it is still going :)

So, time for another one! The 8v was just too slow, and short geared too. A 16v would be better and the TD top of the list really, I am sure you all get asked for this, but notification of any spotted would be ace, the money is waiting for the right car ;)

Right, back to BTCC :D

I recognise your previous cars from eBay in the past - that grey Prestige looked fabulous.
Keep an eye on this forum as nothing Xm for sale normally ever get's missed.
Best wishes to you and your Missus with the little'un.

I can't believe you sold that grey one only a few months ago, now want another. That was a very tidy car.

To use one as a daily car, I would be tempted to spend a bit more for one all done, then rustproof it like mad and it will reward you with reliable motoring for years to come.

Are you bothered about the next one being a series 1?

That grey one looks lovely. A shame you sold it.
There is a nice dark green Mk2 for sale...ebay I think from a dealer. Although a little on the expensive side.
Best of luck with your search.

No not really, infact a S2 would be good with the enhanced safety features :)

I know, the grey one was very tidy and rust free too :/ you live and learn! Although it was missing the 'right' engine, that could have been sorted by a good specialist and a rebuilt diesel, it was just not the right time.

As you say, we are out to spend a little more, infact we can spend what we need to, to get a good one. It is much more important to us getting one that is sorted, well looked after and with all of the normal niggles sorted out. I did consider a V6 with LPG, but it compromises the dog space in the back! What ever we end up with, it will be dinitrol'd to within an inch of it's life as soon as it arrives on the drive :D

Thanks for the kind wishes, it has been a tough year on that front, but this is third time lucky and it is all going well :)

Hi and welcome!

I'm sure I saw that grey Prestige for sale in an ad on RetroRides very recently. I salivated over the pictures then realised it had been sold about a year before- someone had posted in the thread and thus returned it to near the top. One of the ultimate colours for an XM I think, soooo nice!

Best of luck with your new arrival- and hopefully you'll find an XM before then.

Rohan :)

Tidy XM's are definitely getting interest now, irrespective of the engine/gearbox combinations.

Everything you are saying here is telling me you need to talk to Citroenmad (Chris) about their S2 estate. It's a beautiful car in excellent condition and all sorted.

If I was after another car and an estate, I would probably buy it myself.
