AHHH, thought it might be that one. Lovely looking car. And I'd say that's the perfect look for the Italia alloys. I much prefer a darker grey in the inserts., rather than all silver as some were.
I have a set and need them restored. But trying to find someone in our local area that acid strip alloys is surprisingly difficult.

The only other early XM is another 2.0 mandarin who was at the XM25 rally. It had a Renault 'injection' badge on the back of it... Can't remember the RP.

Just shifting through the paperwork with the car. I paid a lofty 2950 for the car but was very happy to as I have wanted an XM with low miles for a while now but it seems the guy I bought from paid 600 pounds less than four years ago so you can see that's not a bad return. Who would have thought that an XM is not only a great car but also a good investment!!

Just trying to help people keep the faith!

Welcome to the Forum and XM ownership Murray and that is certainly a nice early model that I remember seeing up for sale. I also had a brief correspondence with the previous owner who seemed a really nice chap. There is a lot of good advice and shared enthusiasm on the Forum and through the CCC and we hope to see you and the car at events next year. With regards, Matthew T.

Good luck, Ray.

I will be interested to see if you can get some more competitive quotes than I obtained.

There is certainly a need/demand for these but the capital costs looked pretty prohibitive.

Ray, rather than hijack Murry's thread about his lovely new car shall we move back to:

That really is a nice looking car which due to the low mileage is in excellent condition, though at the price I would have hoped all faults to be sorted.

I note it is riding too high at the front. This is a common issue with cars that have st around for some time as the front height corrector spring linkage becomes deformed. The fix is to adjust the clamp on the anti-roll bar to bring the front back to spec.
Run car onto ramps, measure the height tot eh subframe, loosen clamp, operate the height controller with a lever, measure, adjust clamp, drive off ramps and check the height is in spec.

Aha! You've answered a question there Will. Mines riding far too high, at the front too.

My alternator fried the regulator. My car is not quite as early as yours, April 1990.

I used this:

Just had to change one connector (from a spade to a ring bolt, I think?)

All good and dead easy to do.
