Christmas Citroen Run: Salisbury Plain 27 Dec 2015

The SW Branch of the CCC are organising a run from Warminster services to Imber on 27 December. Leaving at 09:30.

Imber is a deserted village that was commandeered by the Army in WW1 and never returned to the villagers.

It is a funny place having been used for Army training for many years.

It is only opened to the public on a few days a year.

I am not an organiser but am planning on taking the XM for its last hurrah before the strip down.

I know that she is also off to the ACE cafe on 21st so a busy month for the old gal after two months of nothing!

My mate organises this - initially a 2CV run. As my 2CV and Dyane are both off the road, I wasn't planning to attend, but if I could legitimately take the XM, then I may have to rethink things! The route usually encompasses some mild green laning. Be warned though - as a deserted village, there's not very much to do at Imber! Take flasks of tea and sarnies.

Imber is a pretty quiet spot!

The Plain's roads are a lot better than when I first drove them at age 11 in a 1966 hydrolastic Mini. In those days they were big enough to swallow the Mini whole! My daughter had her first driving lessons round the Plain in my old CX. I was able to be more relaxed about the potholes than my father had been in the Mini!!

I wouldn't fancy taking anything too low slung across the Plain but the XM should be just fine.

I went along to this last year in the GSA, loads of 2CVs! Also BX's, XM and mine and a friends 2 G's. It was excellent fun, they served tea/coffee and mince pies in the Imber Church. Won't be able to make it this year due to family commitments (I did suggest they come along but for some reason they didn't see the attraction of splashing through massive puddles!)

Apparently the recommendation is to wear wellies! Unsurprisingly, it's quite damp apparently. What's the wading depth of an XM? ;) I'm should be able to make it, having just had a big invoice paid in time for Christmas. Yay!

Not planning on pushing the XM anywhere!!! Certainly not out of any mud filled potholes.

Meeting at the Granada Services at Warminster BA12 7RU, in the lorry Park just after the front door to the little chef 09:30 for 10:30 departure

I'm out. Ten hours of driving just isn't fun at this time of year. Especially given the nature of the weather of late.

Sorry to hear that but I understand your situation.

Hope the weather isn't too we where you are.
