Many thanks for that Russ and I especially liked the convoy scenes near the start. Who knows the Poland car just might be featured there!! With regards, Matthew T.

I called in at Avalon Citroen (Glastonbury) the other day.
I went to ask about difficult to find XM bits.
Chris Roche was very helpful.
He also mentioned that he attended the XM UK launch.

Yes, the convoy scenes near the start were rather splendid. Thanks for posting, Russ.

John,
I do remember that Unipart (Leyland, Rover, et al) used to regularly publish a list of parts about to go NFP or NLA. These were often at 'clearance prices', a fraction of original. I know that PSA prefer to do the opposite (winding up the price as stock dwindles), but is there a list, I wonder?
Also remember that the trick with the Unipart list (they would never tell you how many there were left in stock) was to place a verbal order at the counter for a sizable quantity, and then immediately be told "Sorry, we can only supply nine...". Some of the independent NFP parts guys used to stock up this way.

What a lucky man John and I would like to hear more about his impressions!! By the UK launch do you mean Earls Court? Regards, Matthew T.

^That would be interesting to hear. I wonder what it was like. Is there any pics or footage of it?

In a tenuous link Chris, I was speaking to chap on the Austin Ambassador club stand at the PC restoration show at the NEC yesterday, and he was saying there are no hydraulic displacers left now and no one is willing to remanufacture. They were designed to last 10 years and his are now about 30-40 years old! Similar case to Citroen spheres, the memebranes fail, but once they do, that's it. I did suggest if they had tried swapping them for adapted Citroen spheres. It apparently has been looked into and dismissed. Too difficult to do. So I think we are lucky at least with the spheres situation.

Hi Matthew

Chris mentioned their XM launch location was a country house hotel in the far west.
He said he was sent down on the train from Castle Cary.

That is interesting John and there seemed to have been a similar venue for the UK 24v launch, as these publicity photos suggest! With regards, Matthew T.

I asked the same question at SB in Wakefield. I'm sure he thought I had gone into the wrong dealers as he couldn't get rid of me fast enough.

I fear that your experience is probably the more common Neil sadly! Regards, Matthew T.
